hey

i have a 95 maxima se with about 145k miles on it. it was working fine till recently, but lately has been giving me this weird problem:

when the gas gets a little over the E, it starts sputtering. one time it died on me, and that needle was way over the empty mark... it usually starts when it hits under a quarter left.

i talked to this mechanic buddy of mine and he told me some maxs go through this and to just keep the needle over a quarter. is there a problem with the gas reading, or something more mechanical? anybody have a clue?

Maybe your gauge is inaccurate.
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

 

I'd be curious to know what your fuel pressure was. Maybe the pumps starting to get weak

 

well ill check the fuel pressure tomorrow... gotta find that damn pressure gauge (dont you hate it when you see something you dont need everyday then when you need it you cant find it?)

anyway, if it is the fuel pump, how much am i looking to pay for it? do i need a direct replacement, or can it be taken in to be fixed?

Fuel pump sits on below your back seats.
Prepare to sweat if your fuel pump is weak.

Does water float on top of gas or is it the other way around? He could have water from condensation in there.
