I don't get it. I was headed south on I-95 nice clear section of highway buzzing along at 85mp, I'm about to pass Subaru Outback Station wagon labled as a 2.2 litre engine on the rear. just as I am about to pass by, he guns it, and just JUMPS ahead of me about 2 carlengths and before I can even put my foot down to accelerate. I didn't know what hit me. I tried to chase him up to 120, but he kept pulling away!!! After he got about 8 cars in front of me, he took an exit. I've always been able to trounce those things, and he just walked all over my a$$. Is there a super-fast "sleeper" model that I'm unaware of, or do you think this guy had mods for his grocery getter? I just don't get it. I'm feeling a bit embarassed to have been badly beaten by a station wagon.

Most deff....MAJOR MAJOR MODS......

HAD to be forced induction. A 5sp......5sp no less runs 60 in like 9 flat and around 17 in the 1/4. Surely your auto max is a good deal faster than that. That whould be like you chasing a stock 3rd gen vg(160hp) and him killing you. BTW:....if he was an auto then even slower. Almost 10 to 60. I'd say he had some Big Money spent on that wagon.

There's a local Suburu club in the DC area. They are really into NOS and turbo kits. One guy has an Outback station wagon on the juice.

The station wagons to watch out for are the Volvo V70's with high pressure turbos and the Saab 9-5 Wagon's. Most people who drive those are soccer mom's who never put the pedal to the medal however.

Just be glad they don't ship Audi RS4 Station Wagons over here. 4.9 second 0-60 with a luggage rack on the roof. Full of groceries, it still opens up a can of whupass on almost everything on the road.

Them Subarus can be fast. But there is no way thats the stock 2.2 Liter.. He could have a EJ20 from the Jap spec WRX in there. They have turbo kits available for the 2.5 Liter engine. I wouldn't be surprised if it would fit the 2.2 liter also. Stock, those things have no top end. I know there are some sick Subarus running around. There is a silver Outback Wagon with Turbo NOS, Auto running around out there.

Hehehehe.

Talk about a sleeper. My personal faves are the omni's, but what your message brought to mind was this one time I was in Rochester, NY. Was hanging with some friends at a mall, and a pure oldschool station wagon (not a new one like the suburu you mentioned) started revving it's engine. Did a burnout for like 25 seconds, smoke going everywhere. It was all engine too, guy stuck a v8 under the hood of it.

Personally I think people are wierd if they go to that sort of length to beef up a *station wagon*. But hey I guess the look he got off your face was payment enough =) hehe.

I had the look alright, one of shock and disbelief...Guess it was a good thing he was too far ahead to see my face. And I saw another of these cars today...it was definitely an Imprezza, not an Outback like I had thought.

Re: Re: Hehehehe.

I don't think they make Impreza wagons here.. Not sure about that.. Either way.. A stock 2.5 Liter Impreza doesn't stand a chance at highway speeds against a maxima.. I've proved it to my friend a few times before.. I can practically rearend him if he is in front of me and we both have it floored.. hehe

Maybe your speedometer is off! It might say 120, but you might really be doing 100.

Ok, dumb idea, but you never know.

Mmm...I doubt that it's off by that much; There was one of those radar signs set up down the road that tell you how fast you are going as you approach. I fooled around one night and took it to 90, and it read 91. But even if it was off, the way he pulled away from me was unreal.
I just talked to a friend that races his SVT Contour. He said that he has seen a couple heavily modded Subarus in the area that just fly.

As for my luck this last month (road rage, tires, killed...) It has been lacking big time...Last week I even had a bird sh*t on the car not even 1 minute out of the carwash (right on the spot of the windshield where the wipers won't reach). Hopefully the new year will bring better.
