Try ordinary spray paint in the shade you want first
If it sux, remove it with laqc thinner, but it it looks good, then spring for the p-coat. Your'e out what, $3 bux for the experiment?
In fact, maybe a clear coat over the spary paint may be durable enough, who knows?
