DIYers- Where do you put your flushed tranny fluid and coolant?

Advanced Auto will take the ATF, but what do I flush it INTO? A pan, bottle, regular oil pan?

Also, what about coolant. I want to do ao coolant flush, but the bottle talks about running a hose until it runs clear. What kind of catch-pan do you guys use? And how/where do you dispose of it?

Use an oil catch pan, $20 bucks from your local auto parts store for the tranny drain. Then just use a plastic gallon jug, milk or whatever. I used my kitty litter container for the flushing.

Again, any plastic jug. Your towns recycling center will probably take the coolant. If not, check with your local garage. In my town it's manditory that the local garages take your used oil & other automotive fluids. Sometimes they charge me a buck.

I feed the coolant to the local stray cats.

I know to do that for the coolant itself, but what about when I am "flushing" the system with water...is it diluted enough to just run into the drain? I want to be safe and legal here...

No it is not dilluted enough.

Get a five gallon bucket and just after it flushes pour it in there and store it with the cap on. Then just bring it to wherever will taker it from there.

I'm glad someone else asked this question...I'm planning on a coolant flush this weekend and had the same concern. If I do the math...There's 2 gallons of old coolant and whatever water is used to do the flush that will be running into ???

Which then begs the question...Will coolant kill the grass?

Grass, plants, animals sure.

If you have pets you should know that they will be highly attracted to it because of the sweet taste of it, and then die.

Is fluffy really worth you being lazy?

Took ATF to Advance Auto in milk jugs that I had washed out. Bought 15 quart oil drain pan at Advance Auto, has hole in middle and spout on end. Caught water and Anti Freeze in it and poured down the drain. Didn't know what else to do as dogs and cats will drink antifreeze and it is a poison!

phenryiv,

FFX County Dump site has free disposal of Antifreeze, and Oils (ATF, 10w30,etc.) It's located by the Price Club off of West Ox Road in Fairfax

That's where I dump my s#%t
