Suspension questions and headlight update...
I just got my passenger side axle replaced ($170) and both upper strut mounts replaced (the passenger side had the infamous knock). All together cost me $473 (if anyone was interested). But there is still a knocking in the passenger side when I go over bumps. It's not the distinct KNOCK like the strut bearing causes, but more of like a wobbling knock. I was told by the shop that the passenger side strut is slightly bent. The bar inside wobbles when compressed hitting the sides making that noise. I was quoted $107 per strut and since I just dropped almost $500 on them they will install them free. They checked the tie bar brackets and they are fine. So does this diagnosis sound correct?
Oh... and I posted in the General forum about headlight differences and I wanted to touch up on that. I noticed in the 97-99 headlights, it seems that the inside is not conical/round. It has several 'steps' in it. I'm assuming that's in an attempt to create a better beam pattern. I can't really tell if that is the same way in the 95-96 lights (maybe someone can verify)... It kinda looks like the lens on the 95-96 lights are what really sets the beam pattern. If this is true, I would assume (and we all know what happens when we assume) that the 97-99 lights would be better than the 95-96 for HIDs because there is a better chance of adjustability. I could be completely wrong...
Also, for those interested... My headlight and foglight were cracked by rocks from the road at some point, and my insurance covered both of them under my Comprehensive policy. If you have full coverage, normally it's about $30 extra per year to get your deductable down to $0 for Comprehensive. These two light replacements alone pay for themselves there. And, Comprehensive also covers break-ins, vandalism, and glass repair. Very worth the $30/year...
