Warning lights on dash?
I did a search already and nothing was found under my problem...so this is my question...I had a new alternator installed today afer I had notice that my (brake and battery lights) were on...how do you reset the lights on the dash is my question they look really ugly
someone please help!!!
someone please help!!!
I don't believe you need to reset them .. they're on for a reason. If you installed the alternator at the shop (your post implied that), I would take it back to them and tell them that the lights are on and that usually indicates an alternator fault. Ask them to run a diagnostic on the alternator output.
Also, is the alternator connector secured properly?

This happened to me when I lost my idler pulley/belt. So I was thinking...duh the battery light is on. But why would the brake light come on? That's what didn't make sense to me. It was off after the new belt and pulley were installed...
You need to know the circuity to understand why both warning lights (brake + alt charge) come on at the same time when your alternator fails.
Both warning lamps are tied together but there is a diode on the brake warning circuit. Therefore:
a) only brake warning can be triggered; or
b) when alt charge is triggered, it also illuminates the brake warning
The only reasons I can think they'd wire it that way:
a) to make the warning more visible
b) to have a backup warning lamp in case the alt lamp burns out.
Either way, the driver would definitely notice a problem ... how he/she chooses to react is a different story altogether though. My 0.02
