When I went to the tune up shop, guys told me that tune up is only the spark plug replacement. When I've asked if any timing should be adjusted, they told me that it gets adjusted automaticaly.

Is it really truth?

Replacing sparkplugs is only part of a tuneup. You still have to change the air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter and examine all belts, lines, exhaust, and fluids. The radiator needs flushing, the transaxle oil could need replacing and the drive belt could also need replacing. After all that, you also need to lube up everything. If you take it to a mechanic, it can cost $300 for a tune up. It's a lot more than just plugs.

You should also replace the gas filter, air filter, and PCV valve.
And yes the ECU automaticaly senses the changes and adjust any timing that is needed.

Timing does not need to be adjusted for a maxima because it has direct ignition. The timing should be checked for cars that have a distributor cap and adjusted accordingly.
