LED readout on factory Bose radio not working - help

I have a factory installed Bose radio/CD/Cassette player and the LED readout for the radio stations went BLANK on me, not working. The radio still works fine just the darn display is blank now. Anyone heard of this problem before? Any help with possible cures, recall or warranty work by Bose maybe? There is the same radio as mine right now on an Ebay auction with the very same problem listed so this does not seem to be an isolated problem. The Nissan dealer said that they would have to pull the radio, send it to Bose (150.00 minimum charge from Bose) install the radio back, at least 250.00, if not more. Yikes! This to me seems like a problem that never should have happened, any help on a cure or what to do besides live with this problem will be greatly appreciated. While I am here, the odometer quit working also. Good grief, I have never had an odometer fail on a car before. Dealer says about 316.00 total to replace the odometer head in the dash. I do not think that another Nissan is in the future for me, this was my first one and it seems to me that problems like these just should not happen. Thanks for any help and advise....

After looking at the www.carstereohelp.com website, I have discovered that the Bose radio in my 96 Maxima is prone to just about every problem that a radio can have, wish I had know that Bose makes junk, I thought that Bose was good stuff but guess that I was wrong. They can fix most of the standard problems for 165.00, but I would have to pull the radio and ship it to them. They show how to pull the radio, my god, why in the world is it that much trouble to pull the radio? You have to mess with the console, etc., etc. The radio on a Ford can be pulled with a tool that has 4 little ball detents, push in, push out, the radio is out, unplug everything. Oh well, looks like i am living with this problem. And I also discovered that the CD player does not work, figures, judging from the info on the website. Nissan should never have used Bose with their shoddy radios.

My brother had a 1996 GLE with around 100K on it and his display starting showing the same symptoms. He called the dealership about it and they told him that the head unit IS NOT a BOSE head. BOSE only supplies the speakers and amps for the speakers. If I remember correctly, our head unit is a Clarion made product. So don't jump on BOSE for someone else's mistake. But you're right in saying it's a shoddy head unit. My 96 SE has 85K on it so I am just waiting for my radio to do the same thing.

amb is correct, BOSE does not make the head unit, i believe it is Clarion. Anyway it still sucks.

Yes, from reading the past postings on this forum, the "Bose" radio is a Clarion it appears. One poster received a letter from Bose stating that the radio was Clarion and the speakers and amps were Bose. No where on the front of the radio or in Nissans advertising can I find where they state there is a Clarion junk radio in the Nissan Maxima. I am not happy at all with Nissan and Bose at all, but what can you do besides pick very carefully the next time what cars and radios are purchased.

LED readout on Bose

I was reading through some older posts and came to yours and thought I'd give you a holler. have had a few problems with my Bose system. And YES its made by Clarion.Mine started with this same symptom. It was worse in cold weather and when the car warmed up inside the display came back on.But after a few weeks of this not only did the display not work but other weird readout stuff began to happen.Long story short,if your still stuck with this my suggestion is call or go to this website;unitedradio.com They are located in Syracuse NY and will pay for shipping both ways. They give you a 1year warranty which I can attest to as they honored it actually 2 days after it expired. These guys go through the unit totally and know these units like the back of their hands and N I dont work for them or anything.Check them out ther great.Good Luck. Tony.
