My muffler is too damn loud...for the neighbors

I just got a magnaflow muffler last week. I bought it from a guy I work with that had it on his probe gt for a week. He was selling it for half price so I thought what the hell. I had a local muffler shop weld it on for me. At first I thought it was too loud. But once I drove it around it quited down a little... I guess because it warmed up and was in higher gears, I dunno. But my nieghbors complained about it. I guess it is louder in my nieghborhood because I am under acceleration.

Anyway...Is there any way to quiet it down, like maybe put a silencer on it or weld a resonator on it. I'm sure that other people on the org have had similar problems.

Peace - Chad

You could have the shop weld a resonator in before the muffler maybe. That will help with some of the problem. Or drive around your neighbor hood in a higher gear than normal and see if the complaints stop.

How long is the tip?? My muffler on my old max had like a 1 inch long tip and laid under the car, so i had my muffler shop weld a longer tip that reached past under the bumper and the extra noise was GONE. It was like night and day afterwards.

dude, just lay off the gas pedal a bit, that's all, I'm sure it's only loud under acceleration, so just roll through the neighborhood, get into higher gear, the car can handle it, and it won't be that loud then

but then again, you ought to wake 'em up once in a while

hahahaha complaining neighbors cuz ure muffler is loud?! sounds like my friend's rich *** neighborhood where some snotty bastard called the cops on us because we were "disturbing" the neighborhood when all we did was drive in.... that was back when i had my celica which was pretty loud, but not THAT loud. When i go back to that neighborhood in my nice classy maxima... i so feel like stepping up to that ******* and telling him i drive a better car than he does. BUT i'm not that cheap =D

But yeah... if neighbors complain alot about the muffler, maybe it is too loud. Doesn't it get annoying? I had a hole in the muffler once and it is probably a lower sound than some of the mufflers i've heard out there.... i'd go nuts.

It is an oval style. I know they make a silencer for the round tube like kinds. Do they make one for the oval style? Another reason I want it quieter is so I don't get pulled over. My friend got pulled over in his eclipse....but you could stick your freakin foot inside his muffler it was so big.

My cousins neighbor was complaining his exhaust was too loud when coming home , so my cousin went to a shop and had a quieter muffler put on. About a week later the guy bought a Harley and would run it at higher RPM when coming and going. Some people I just dont understand.

I have to feel for your neighbors man. I used to live where Harleys would rip the throttle for 5 houses and mine was in the middle. Therefore I found out where they live, put the flowmasters and no-cat h-pipe in my mustang gt and did burnouts in front of their house at 6am when I left for work. THAT was loud! Mufflers and tires squealing It was fun! They eventually got the idea and chilled.

I would just lighten the throttle impulse thats all. peace: e3 - spamman

Drive around for a week without the muffler. Then when they really start complaining you can put it back on and they'll be happy with the "quieter" sound.
