The life of Double Sided Tape

All,

I have done a search for the Stillen Body kit, and the consensus is to use Double Sided tape a lot for the front of the front lip, the side skirts, and part of the rear sections.

My question is this: has anyone had problems with it falling off (the side skirts or front) where the Tape was, due to hot weather, water, snow, ice, etc? AND how long has it lasted for you....... has anyone had to retape also?

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR ADVICE, (and flames as well! )

3m makes a double sided tape that will hold up up to 5 pounds or something like that... its the strongest thing I have found and I have used it for everything

Just make sure it's a grey or white color and has a foamy texture to it. It's not the flat masking type tape. It is a "thick" type of tape.

No problems, right? Would heat "loosen" the adhesive?

Put a couple of screws in that kit to hold it on.

Trust me - you really don't want to find it dragging behind you one day, and you will if you only use tape.

WARNING....I used the double-sided tape that came with the kit, and it all came undone. I strongly suggest using grey 3M tape like Kashoggio was talking about. Also, I would suggest putting a couple of screws in the top of the side skirts(in the door jam area) and a couple screws in the back pieces thru the back bumper. I can send you a couple pics of where I put mine in the rear skirts, if you'd like.

Yes, heat will make the tape more susceptible to loosening. Try adding in some screws like njmaxseltd said.

Check out my homepage(page 6). I added two pics. They are not great, but they'll give you an idea of what to do. I would take more, but I do not have a digital camera. Hope it helps!

You can get quality 3M tapes from Autobody supply shops. They aren't cheap. I think I got a huge roll for $40 that's enough to installed 6 full body kits with.

I actually used galvanized drywall screws that I had from work. Where I screwed through the inner part of the molding and rear bumper are both plastic. Drilling was not needed. The tricky part is getting a screwdriver up in there.
