What can be the cause of a stiff clutch?

I've tried different 4th gens and the clutch is not the same as mine..

When i depress my clutch, about 1/2 way through it starts to make a nasty sqeaking/screetching noise and it does not go down smooth..

Someone suggested the Slave cylinder? (i think)

any ideas?

thanks

Where is the noise from? If inside the car then it's your pedal binding up. If it's outside it could be the slave cylinder, clutch pressure plate or release bearing or throw out bearing.

The sound is coming from under the hood where the slave cylinder is.

Yea, I developed the squeak/screech about a month ago. From the searches I did it was just an area that had to be lubed, but was rough to get to, as in...drop-the-tranny rough I think? I'm 98% sure my throwout bearing is shot so I'm just planning on getting a new clutch next year anyway, and making sure the proper areas are lubed while it's open down there. I think I searched for "clutch" AND "squeak" and found the info, there were a couple threads that DBM posted in. Those are always good for reference.

It kinda sucks...between the squeak (and added resistance that came with it) and the rumbling/vibrating in my pedal coming from what I assume to be the t.o. bearing, it's not easy to drive the max smoothly all the time.

that sounds exactly like what i am experiencing!

and i agree with you
it plays on your foot.. sometimes i have to stomp the clutch, sometimes it is harder to release it smooth.. definately messes with my driving, not to mention annoying the hell out of me..

They are $25 or so seperately. You have to pull out the tranny to replace the throw out bearing. It becomes a clutch job anyway since the tranny is already off the car. They are usually included with a clutch kit.
