Just out of curiousity, has anyone here attempted to put speakers on the doors in the back? Would there be a reason not to do something like that?

Reasons not to, bad imaging.

 

Don't install tweeters and low pass the rears at about 1-2KHz and the image will be rock solid. Nice mid bass punch too. BTW I put 7" Focals in the rear doors of my 2K1.

 

Sweet, if anyone here has done this to their 3rd gen cars, Please let me and others know what you used, what speakers you have their, the procedures etc.

A tweet may be installed in the rear doors, but it's not needed. Probably only usefull in an extreme competition vehicle. Even then you could win without any rear speakers. I have a single DA 8 inch mid in the rear doors. Bandpassed from about 200 hz to 2000 hz. The gain is turned almost all the way down to keep the image from shifting to the rear.

 

i agree with you. it will distort imaging.

if you have a good enough front sound stage than it's not really necesssary to have rear fill. if your front isn't up to par, then i'd save the money and work, trying to get speakers to fit in the door, and just go ahead and beef up the front.
