Busted Flex Section?

Can someone who has had this describe the sound for me? My ypipe makes a slight rattle for like 3 seconds when you rev the motor. Doesnt do it all the time. I'm thinking the lining is bad?

budget. I'n not so sure this is the problem. It could be a loose bolt or bracket. I'm going to get under it tomorrow and see if I find anything.

how long have you been hearing it? do you see any black soot on the outside of the lining? check to see if any of the flanges are loose too.

humm, well I would start by jacking up the car and starting it and try to feel if you feel or hear any air leaking out of anywhere on the whole exhaust to try to iscolate wherever its comming from.

i have a similar problem with my year old budget pipe, but haven't had the chance to get under the car to diagnose exactly where its from yet. I have a good feeling its from the flex though. a replacement lined flex from wsp is around 55 shipped. tell me how it goes after you take a look.

When my cattman had a bad flex I didn't notice a noise so much as a lack of power when you floor it. No way for the exhaust gas to escape.

Wierd.........comes and goes.....then when trying to pinpoint it...it stops....grrrr. No power loss yet.

Maybe some heatshield is loose somewhere or something.

Your comment about the heat shield reminded me that when I have the pipe installed I needed to bend the heat shield away from the pipe. Get under the car and look up you will see what I am taking about.

Good luck

Is there heatshield on the car where the pipe runs up the the manifolds? I cant remember. I check around the cat last night and it all seemed tight.

There is a heat shield were the pipe runs up to the manifold. Trying to remember here....I think the heat shield that I bent was the one that is next to the 2nd up (the one closest to the rear).

Hmmm it started right after i missed 3rd against a boosted eclipse. I think i'd of had him if i didnt mis-shift. Off the bottle.

be glad you were off the bottle when you missed that shift

if you havent orginally bent the heat shield near the cat out of the way, that could be it...havent seen any heatshields near the manifold, but then again i havent really looked....also, try driving along side of a wall or metal barrier, i.e. on the highway, and give it light throttle, and have your windows open...the sound will bounce off the wall/barrier, echoing louder, so you can see what it really sounds like

Yeah no kidding.....although as soon as the tps loses voltage (not at WOT anymore) the zex supposedly wont spray....im thinking there is a delay tho......regardless i dont want to find out

Ne way my front bumper was at his rear....rolling start...think he got the jump on me. It was a friendly meeting. The guy has a nice eclispe....total sleeper...no badges or markings....stock wheels....only signs are the boost gauge on the pillar and the lovely bov sound

Yeah......it seems to me that if it was the flex section it would do it all the time.

your right on that...it most likely is something banging against something else....just look for any kind of heat shields that might be in the way of the pipe when it moves around
