I have a JWT ECU and unless I add a can of octane booster to every tank of gas (93 octane), I get the 0304 code. On tanks with the octane booster, no code. What's the deal? I use the NOS Street Formula Octane Booster. Supposed to raise the octane level 3 points in 16 gallons of gas. Surely you don't have to run 96 octane with these ECU's. What else would cause this? It get's really expensive when gas prices go up.

Wow, it shouldn't knock.
1) ecu program is advancing the timing too much. Have to send the ecu back or hook it up to a Nissan consult to see the timing curve.
2) OEM DET sensor could be bad and NOT pulling the timing back when it should be.
3) OEM base timing could be wrong. Timing light? Or Nissan consult to verify.

I just got a Techtom.

The ignition timing numbers jump all over the place. Do you know what the timing should read with the JWT. Under the hood it reads the stock timing is supposed to be 15 degrees BTDC. What's BTDC? What does JWT raise it to? The highest it's ever read while sitting at idle is 15. It usually jumps around at 9, 11, or 15 at idle.

How many miles are on your car? You might have carbon build up. Try BG44k in a tank.

I give it a try and see if it helps.

The JWT ECU should set the timing to 15 when at idle, which is 650 rpm with the TPS disconnected. If TPS is connected it could make the timing seem to jump around as the ECU tries to maintain control. The ECU will kick in the timing curve as rpms rise, starting at about 800 rpm.
