2k2 6spd vs mustang convertible...sorry but just had to post this

Yeap... it happened on the way to get some beer for a party on saturday evening.

I made a right onto a north bound street (in fresno cali) then had to stop at the next light. I was on the right lane and this one beat up van on the left... then comes a mustang convertible (top down of course) with an asian guy and his wife and kid behind the van.

light turns green and i pass up the junker van and move into his lane for the next light. All this was casual shifting at 2500 rpm... guy in mustang does the same but stays on right lane... I get to the next light about half mile down the road and i'm up front next to a big red ford f350.... while waiting for the green, in the far right turn lane to my right this guy in a old chevy flareside peels out while doing a right to go eastbound... he almost does a 180 deg spin out then takes off....

then light turns green and i kinda gave too much gas, about 3000 rpm, and kinda dropped the clutch too so i take off squeling my tires...(surprisingly no torque steer..) i wasn't aware but i guess guy in the mustang must have thought "I'll show him at the next light..", because lo and behold when i was stuck at the red at the next intersection on the inside lane, he pulls up right next to me in the empty right lane... i didn't look at him nor think of racing him... he didn't rev so i didn't really prepare either....

then as light turn green.... i take off reving to 3000 rpm in first then thats when i hear his engine roar and match my speed... i went to 2nd, and saw him roaring slightly pass me as i start go rev up in 2nd.... his mustang was real loud by then... (by the way all of my windows were down) so i reved my baby all the way to the 6k mark and upshifted to 3rd...

that's when i pretty much blew past him and went all the way to 80mph ... he had given up after i was about 5 cars ahead.... at the next light i merged to the right lane behind two cars... he merged to the left lane and stopped behind 2 cars also.... I turned my head to give him the "Who's your daddy" remark but he was too embarassed to look back.... even his wife was too afraid to turn her head.... light turns green and we slowly follow the traffic but he does so at a much slower pace...

I thought... you know best... I think he embarrassed himself in front of his wife... that will teach him not to mess with the maxima...

And yeah, I know it wasn't much competition because it wasn't a GT but heck I just had to show him who was the man...

Hehe

It's good to show up a v6, but what's the 0-60 of a v6 convertible? It's gotta be almost 8 seconds or something for a manual! I'd say your car is more fit to compete reasonably with a convertible GT (only if it has an auto though!).

I ran a 95-98 Mustang yesterday. He was weaving in- and out on the highway going about 80mph. I got behind him and matched his speed. I think it was a V6 because I did not see any GT emblem, but it had the dual pipes. He sped up, so I jump into the far right lane and matched his speed. We had two lanes in between us. I heard his engine roar, but It did not seems he was going anywhere? so I just matched his speed again. I went up to around 95 mph matching his speed, then I punched it. I pulled on him so hard I couldn't tell if he was even trying? So I slow down to about 85-90mph and he flies by me. Maybe he was just crusing??

Hey, if they pick on me, I'll definitely put them in their place to show them who's the boss... I don't go around revving on people with small cars such as mentioned (corollas and vw bugs) unless they initiate the contest... I like to baby my max most of the time and have enough common sense that if traffic is bad, it ain't worth it. I think its the attention that the max gets that makes them want to pick on me... If they beat me then they beat me... Especially if they do a good job on tuning up ther cars and are good drivers...

Suppose he would have been in a mustang cobra svt... but that's another event yet to happen... But thanks to all who replied...

He probably asked for it, but he showed bad judgement since you did mention that his child was in the car also.

ironic

I find the comments in this thread really ironic because 3-4 days ago another guy posted a kill on a Mustang and they all went crazy on him. Here they are congradulating you.

I guess it's how you work your thread...or if the first few responses are positive, it will continue that way.

Nevertheless, NICE WIN

i had a race with a 99 or 2k mustang GT auto. he had a v6 with 40,000 miles. and i had a 2k2 auto with only 2200 miles, by that time i didn't even get my first oil change. so we both turned into a sidestreet. i was on the right side and he was on the left side. he had two people and so did i. but those guys were skinny. i had a 250 lb guy in my car. he thought that the mustang could beat me. i had doubts that i was gonna win. so the only way to see was to race the mustang. so basically i had an extra 100 lbs in my car cuz of my friend. we both punch it, both same speed at first gear, then second i started pulling away from him a lot. and thats when it ended. hahaha. yea next thing i knew that i was going 70 mph!!! how sad. i didn't know my car was that fast. and so after that i went on a racing spree... killed many cars except TL-S. but lets not get into that. so yea.. and then i got into an accident by racing some random jerk that i didn't even know. so after that i stopped racing cars. well not really, i only race when they want to race personally. so yea i learned my lesson not to go 100 on a 45 and at the same time trying to avoid an accident.

Wow, another V6 mustang kill with a 2002 maxima, how terribly impressive. I'm not dissing you guys for your kills, but you guys need to pick on cars that can at least give you a run for your money, leave the V6 mustangs to the ricers to play with. You guys go race some Acura CL-Ss or 330i Beemers or 96-98 GTs.

I think if you explain the "race" in a neutral manner without *******, capping, or flaming about what the other vehicle or person is, you would get fewer flaming responses.... I've been on here enough to see that if you try to be more objective, it would get more positive feedback... I find it not wise to "hate" other brands on here...

In the end the driver has to know his limits as to what his capabilities are and what his machine is capable of in the environment that he is in...

I see nothing wrong with V6 versus V6. At the very least, when people beat V6 Mustangs, they're teaching the Mustang owners that they should've bought the GT or better, and not gotten the weak version of a muscle car. The GTs are a different league, even though they have archaic engine technology, and resort to much higher displacement and 2 more cylinders to generate near-equivalent power.

there are lots of ways to make power, and the GTs are only single cam engines. how about comparing their torque to yours? dont say near equivalent power, a new GT outpowers you in every way... remember, horsepower is only a calculation based off of torque.

you don't go to other cars boards and say your car is better/faster even if it is true. You will just get flames from people defending the "honor" in their car. I don't blame them.
In Example: a guy with a Camaro SS comes to your board (and his car is faster than the GT) you will all defend your car and say you will beat that car from 90-120 or whatever.
Let us think what we want, it doesn't really matter in writing, it matters on the streets. When a Maxima loses to your one of your GTs, then they won't talk about how slow your car is anymore. Their lesson is learned
On the other hand, when you lose to our Maxima (yes it will happen) then you won't post remarks that your car is faster.
You have the advantage off the line, you will kill us. From a street roll you still have an advatage but not as great. there are a lot of good drivers out there, so watch who you mess with.

I was comparing the GT power to the 2k2+ Maxima power (260hp vs 255hp). Yes, the 4.6L V8 makes gobs of torque (302 ft-lbs), but its specific power output underperforms compared to what the 3.5L V6 in the Maxima makes.

Just so you know..... I dont own a mustang, in fact, I dont really care for them either. I'm just trying to make the point that there are lot of ways to go fast. I've made it clear in the past that I like maximas, I think they're great quality cars, and very sporty considering that it's in a sedan class. I've always been impressed with them. I've noticed that alot of maxima owners seem to embrace their cars, and absolutely nothing else, like their cars are the best and that anything from america, wether it's faster or not, just is a ****ty car. And lets face it, there are indeed lots of ways to go fast, wether it be with displacement, or with high winding low displacement or boosted engines. When you're going to race, who really gives a **** how your car got to be fast. I'll give props to those who can make their cars fast, but I wont discredit those who do it differently than I do, I wont bag on some DSM guy because his engine runs 14 psi to compete with my power, or I wont bag on a Viper guy saying he needs all those cubic inches and his "specific" output just cant compete with mine (those are ricer arguements IMO).... how bout an S2000? my car has little more than half the specific output than that engine does, and you know what, I kick the **** out of them bad, and you know how bad I feel driving away, thinking it took me all that more cubic inches.... oh wait, I dont feel bad at all

Just my .02 guys
