hey, im about to make a mold of the rear bumper for our maxes so i can make my cover all out of fiberglass and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a stock glass cover. i was planning on modifying it before molding unless anyone is interested. it may end up weighing more than stock, but major advantage over stock would be no warp over the license plate hole, being able to shave the licence hole, moving it to one side or the other or molding a kit onto it without the fear of it cracking. not sure of price, probably somewhere around 100-150, depending on materials. give me some feedback, i probably wont have the mold done for a month or so, but itll let me know if i should waste time trying to reproduce the stock one. thanks

 

Weird that you mention this today, as I was just thinking about removing the liscense plate recess from the rear bumper, and how it could be done. Make straight stock bumpers with no plate recess. Eventually I'll want one when I restore the body on my ride.

 

Are you making it yourself? 100-150 doesnt sound bad. Any way you could make this in the form of a valence? like bumper bodykit?

 

im trying to make it as close to stock as possible (mine doesnt have the body line in it or license, but i can change that once molded.) keep in mind that if i were to mold some sort of valence to it it wouldnt match the 1/4 panels unless you make a kit to match it.

 

What are you putting for layers with the glass?? I was thinking of doing this with my front bumper and making my own custom front cover using skin coat as a base and filling around but that would require me to have a spare bumper to play with in order to make the mold. BTW I work in a boat shop and glass id second nature to me ( like making a sandwich now ) so if anybody has any questions about using the stuff id be happy to anwser them. That goes for gelcoat as well

All I can say is WOW, nice job man. I'm not really into 'dros and ****, but you did a nice job. I especially like the rear end treatment. If you can hook up a rear bumper like yours, I'll take one. Did you do all the bodywork yourself? I can tell you are east coast, your max has more rust than mine!. Bodywork looks good though. Those hydraulics must shake your car apart.

 

thanks , yeah, i did it all myself, it actually rides better than it did when i had the springs clamped down. i still have 2 more inches to go so thats gonna be my focus for next show season.
