Kicker amps or MTX thunder amps?
I'm currently running a PG XS6600. The sub is a kicker solobaric L7 8". I want a little more power to my sub and improve the overall look.
As for the look, the MTX has that chrome part which would stand out in the trunk. The kicker has the removable shroud which I think it's metal that I can chrome plate or powedercoat to a different color.
Option 1: MTX Thunder 6500D for the sub. MTX Thunder 4244 or 6304 for the rest of my speakers.
Option 2: Kicker KX600.1 for the sub. Kicker KX600.4 for the rest of the speakers.
Options 3: Stick with one amp setup. Kicker KX700.5. I'm only getting 100 more watts with this setup compare to my PGXS6600.
All 3 options should run less than $500. MTX amps are alittle cheaper than Kicker.
What do you guys think?

well between the two i like Kicker. They are know for raw power, especially for subs. But if you wanna do things the right way id go for a Kicker amp for the sub and Alpine amp for your high, maybe the Alpine 407 or even 307 4channels.

I spoke to AnGe last night and told me what you wanted to do, I just didnt get a chance to find anything on MTX yet. Kicker and Memphis are always immediately handy though
Shoot me an email and we can work something out...

Have you concidered Kenwood Excelon amps??? I have a PS200T, which was the "performance standard" series. That was basically the prototype for the "excelon" series. I've had that thing banging on two 12"s for 4 years now. I think you can get specs on Kenwood's website.

MTX and Kicker are both on the high watt per dollar list. MTX is a good reliable amp. I haven't used the kicker amps. But if you are going just for looks, for something that you can't see from the drivers seat, use the one that you think can be made to look the best. But don't forget that looks can be changed subtly or dramatically.
In car audio I say F looks and go for what is the best quality/sound....you dont see the stuff at all unless your in a show for car stereo, then you might wanna go with looks but if its not then go for whatever is best and sounds best on your budget.

I agree.
btw, I got the kicker 800.4 off of ebay. certificate says 1020w. All I can do is drool. Got it powering my components up front and rear. It is my first amp purchase and I do not regret it one bit
