my 97 gxe 5sp won't lock its steering wheel after i remove the key. does anyone know what i can do about it? or how much it will cost to have it corrected. also, is it better to just leave the steering wheel unlocked when its parked in the driveway? thanks for any help.

I have only locked mine a couple of times,

by accident,it seems rather hard to do you have to turn the wheel quite a bit for it to lock,I remember I could not get my key to turn in the ignition I was like what the hell is going on here I kept looking at my key to make sure it was not broken then after a couple of minutes I finally figured it out haha.

Try turning the steering wheel counterclock-wise past 1/4 turn. That usually gets it.

Steering wheel lock is security feature, not a safty feature. I wouldn't worry about it

I have only done it a couple of times, it makes the key VERY hard to turn, you have to play with the steering wheel. The first time it happened, was after I had been pulled over for 130mph hehe and I got back in my car and my key wouldn't turn AT ALL!!! I was like WTF, they can't do anything to my car can they??? then I remembered the wheel thing and after "jiggling" it for a min I got it to go.. kinda a pain to me, so I never ever do it (dont see the point) but I do see how it is a safety feature...
