I broke my car! I guess I'm never going to do mods.
I broke my car! I guess I'm never going to do mods.
I tried to put in the CAI yesterday. ALL yesterday. I measured it out, removed the front headlight, battery and battery case, and finally began cutting(which took a long time since the wheels for the dremel broke every inch and a half). But then, it was night and raining, and I needed my car for school tomorrow, so I tried to start putting everything back in. I couldn't get the battery holder thing back on, and when I tried to take it out, it snapped off a hose, and the little plastic thing the hose was on.
I have no Idea what it is! It says "fuel" something, has three small hoses going into the top, and apparently a very large one comming into the bottom(the whole peice is kind of cylindrical). Just the little peice the hose connects onto broke off in the hose, am I going to have to replace the whole thing, whatever it is?
I'm never messing with my car again. I couldn't get enough information on where to cut the hole in the first place. With everything in, there isn't even a 3 inch diameter circle for anything to fit through, in the first place! I should have guessed. Now I'm probably going to have to be dishing out $100-$700 to get it fixed if I took it to a mechanic, and I will have a big, useless hole in the inside of the car
After I get this fixed, I guess there'll be no need for me to post here anymore

Re: I broke my car! I guess I'm never going to do mods.
keep your head up. if everyone on the org quit everytime they had problems modding their cars there wouldnt be an org. shouldnt cost that much to fix since you didnt exactly tear or break anything. Max $100 depending on the amount of work that needs to be done but from what you said it doesnt sound like much.
LOL a DREMEL!
why didn't you use a real tool.. and a big drill or a hole cutter. i removed the batt. and got a drill with an extreamly large bit, drilled about 8-9 holes.. then pounded the rest out with a hammer.
don't worrie about it, you will taht little piece fixed in no time..*hint. hint* SUPER GLUE.
i know what part your talkin about.. it that "can" below the battery, it has that long vacume hose going to the enigne. im sure you can fix it.. your-self.
good luck! and dont stop moding!!! i always *** something up, live and learn

Man, this stuff will happen. You don't take any chances you will receive no benefits. There is a template for the hole and you will need a powerful drill and a three inch hole saw.
The best mods I have done have been the ones that I have struggled with the most.
The feeling of satisfaction is awesome and I then gain some experience I can pass on to another frustrated .orger.
Re: Re: I broke my car! I guess I'm never going to do mods.
I think it might be the fuel pump, judging from some pictures, but I can't do a cheap job fixing it
If the hose comes off becuase it's barely stuck on, there'd be fuel spraying everywhere, and the engine wouldn't be taking in anymore fuel at the time...
And there's lots of problems. I can't figure out how to take off the wheel well(I haven't been able to get it onto level ground to take off the wheel), I'm scared about cutting the wire going to the MAF to have it longer so that it can go down into the fender, and if I don't turn back, it seems like it's goign to be harder and harder to even eventually tow it to a mechanic
(and I don't have much money right now). It was cheap anyways. I was making my own CAI, becuase I couldnt' afford to buy the WSP, of any of those, becuase I accidentally got 2 INtakes in the mail($130+$45), and I didn't wan't to spend much more on gettign a whole new one. So I went to a muffler shop, got a 3" tube fitting with a place for the AAC tube to go on, was getting help from some other guy on using flew pipe to connect to the filter, but everythings gone wrong. I probably should have just bought the real CAI fo rthe additional $200, in a year.
I'm down.

Invest in a FSM (Factory Service Manual). It will work wonders for you.
be more careful next time.. the part you broke is the vacuum canister. fix it, otherwise the engine won't run right and your brakes will mess up, because they all run on engine vacuum.
call up a junkyard and see how much the vacuum canisters are. I believe they're the same for most nissans, but I'm not sure. I've see the same one on an old 280Z and 4th gens.

Does anyone have a picture of where their CAI pipe goes into the peice they had to cut? I'm not sure if I want to try it again.... I have to cut the wire on the adapter going to the MAF, and those cost alot! :L
thanks for advise :S
i broke a camshaft while rebuilding my VTC's so i understand your pain but the satisfaction of not having to hear the tick tick every morning was more than worth the pain of one week's wait for the replacement part.
keep modding!!

it was a stupid mistake. I forgot to progressivelly tighten the bolts that hold down the cam and it snapped. I was busy cranking away without thought ; my excuse was the frusration and tiredness from trying to remove the inner bank timing chain cover. It's so close to the strut tower/inner firewall structure that it takes alot of patience to access all the bolts.
