Race against a VW 1.8T GTI

I have a 2K3 Max Auto stock. The person I may race is a very experienced manual shift driver. What do you guys think?

Is that the VW Golf 1.8 GTI or the Jetta?

Are they stock? Are you racing from stop or a roll? If the GTI is stock and your racing from a stop, then it may be a close race (given that you said he's a good stick driver), but you may end up taking the win. If you're going from a roll, then I think you should have no problem winning (not by a long margin though IMO). If he's modded at all, then you may have probs with him.

It's a Golf GTI. And it's brand spankin new from the dealer. I'm going to try and find the hp/tq curve for both cars.

I think we should not waste space here on yet another one of these treads, especially one which involves a car which has been discussed before...

The car wasn't a GTI but close enough I guess.

Ok jjs, what would you like to talk about. I guess you want me to do a search on that too?

That is a list of search results not just the first one. Several GTI references came up.

Hey you asked for what we thought!

If the golf is stock, you'll spank them. A friend of mine as a 1.8T, chipped, with downpipe, new motor mounts to reduce wheel hop... plus other suspension mods. He runs about the same time in the 1/4 as my stock 2000 SE... 15.4 - 15.5... he may be just a touch faster on paper, but in our one head to head race at the track, I beat him. His car stock, was a dog.

Sounds like your friend can't drive since the GTI 1.8 T is supposed to be a 15.3 car stock. With all that work he should be well into the mid 14's since a chip on those cars alone gives them huge gains.

You should win, but it'll be a good race. You have to get him off the line or you'll have a hard time catching him if you can.
