Advice & question after installing AE pedals

First the advice... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THESE PEDALS AT NIGHT!!! My dumb a$$ just couldn't wait, so I pulled into one of the bays at the car wash (for the light), held a flashlight in my mouth, and spent the worst 25 minutes of my life fighting with #1, the brake pedal cover, and #2, the damned throttle cable at the top of the accelerator assembly. Don't be ghey... do it in the day!!!

Now for the question... After installing the pedals, I started up my car to drive home, and when I put my foot on the brake, I could hear what sounded like a relay clicking in the shift console (autotragic). It's pretty loud, and I am 100% sure that it wasn't doing it before. I'm convinced it has something to do with the "shift lock" because the click happens about halfway through the pedal's travel, and the shifter won't move out of park until after the click. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but it just annoys me that it started doing this after I torqed, twisted, and mashed on the brake pedal pretty hard tonight to get the last part of the pedal cover to go on. Is anyone familiar with how the "shift lock" thing works? Is it actually a relay, or is it something that is cable-actuated? Could I have done something to it by pressing VERY hard on the brake pedal with my foot? HELP?!?!?!

Sorry so long, but any info at all will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

p.s.-- Oh yeah... the pedals look smooooooove!!!

if you did it in the dark in 25 minutes that's pretty damn good! it took me 45 minutes in the day just to get the brake cover on.

anyhow, the clicking is normal. i get it. it is the shift lock, can't get around it. but my clicking was there before i changed the pedals, and it's not that loud so it doesn't really bother me. if your's is louder than before, i suppose you could have moved something a bit, but as long as it still works, i prolly wouldn't mess with it. it's supposed to do that.

Hmmm... first off, thanks, guys, for the input. Secondly... that seems kind of strange that you only got the pedal cover for the accelerator, but... it's probably just as easy (hard) to install just that anyway. I'm looking at my old accelerator assembly, and the pedal is only attached at two points, but I don't really see how to remove it without cutting it off. It's fairly soft plastic (or hard rubber), so you should be able to cut it off with a sharp boxcutter or something. Then that AE pedal should snap right on. I don't want to be the one to tell you to cut off your accelerator pedal (!!!), but it looks like it would be the easiest way.

Read my write-up on my homepage. I give pics and details of the easiest way to install these pedals. Hope it helps future installs.

Mine did too. I don't know why everyone is removing thier whole pedal assembly. Unless it's different for 2k and 2k2? Maybe. Anyways, there is a clip on the back-top-left of your accelerator. Pry it off with a screw driver, and then slide it off the bottom. Slide the new one on, then clip that top clip back on. Presto. Easy. Then move on to the pain is the ****ing *** brake and clutch pedals! My fingers bled for days.

for a 2k, you should only have to replace the accelerator pad. i did, without any real problems.
do not cut off that clip that holds it on. pry/slide it off. you'll need it to secure the new one.

2k2 has electronic throttle so you can only remove the actual metal pedal, not the entire assembly. If you have a 2k or 2k1 you can remove the entire assembly arm and replace it with the AE one.

Good point... after looking at it again, I can see how the top clip will slide out.

DANG... why didn't I do it that way to begin with?!?!?!?!?!
