Problem with "door locks & headlight/ignition key warning chime"

I have a 1994 SE 5spd. For about the past 2-3 weeks I have been having problems with my door locks.
When I shut my car off and open the door the warning chime that indicates that your "headlights are on" or "the key is in the ignition" constantly chimes, even though the headlights are off and the key is not in the ignition. So when I get out of my car and try to lock my doors before I shut the drivers door all the locks pop up. So the only way I can lock my doors when leaving the car is to use the key from the outside.
I've had this same problem happen on a few freak occasions before (maybe 2-3 times in a span of 3 years), but it always went away within a day or so.
I'm afraid that something in my ignition assembly on the steering column is bad. That seems like it could be an expensive item or a costly repair. I’m hoping that maybe it's just my door lock timer, since it seems to be a fairly faulty item on 92-94 Maximas. I'm considering taking the timer out and resoldering all the connections since that seemed to fix my broken clock in the dash. But I figured I would post this scenario as a forum and see what kind of responses I get.

A few other things that may or may not be related to this same problem.
*Sometimes (just recently since my door locks have been acting up) when I shut my door as I'm leaving my car the locks will automatically lock themselves. (I've also had this happen in the past a few times and once or twice my keys were still in the ignition.) I've read about other people having the same problem

*Another thing that has started to happen now when it is cold out is, when I go to unlock my car I have to hold the key over in the unlock position constantly and try to lift the handle immediately. Other wise the door will not unlock, sometimes this takes 3-4 tries to time it right. I've also read about this happening to other people.

I've tried doing several different searches and couldn't find any one with same problem or at least any one that had a solution!
Please respond with any helpful info it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Re: Problem with "door locks & headlight/ignition key warnign chime"

I had that exact same problem shortly after my ignition switch would fight me trying to take it off the security setting...
So, I clipped the warning chime, still same problem.
Eventually, I unplugged my lock timer because I'm sure that the problem lies in the switch itself...
As of now, I don't need a key to start my Max, it works with anything that'll turn it.
