it appears to be hood lock and cable protection. The shroud *appears* to address the cutting of the cable. certainly a positive improvment. Does not appear to protect the housing tabs. If thats the case, then no.. wont help much more than the bolts.. they will still pry with the crowbar and break the tabs

I think the clips on the bottom should have a locking mechanism and housing tab covers. Of course, this is NYC/NJ, nothing is going to stop them.. including the guy that just walked up, grabbed them with his hands and pulled them up and out he didnt even bother with the hood.

If I move to NYC, I will be getting it regardless.

protecting the hood from being opened is the least of my worries...i thought this thing would hold the the HID's more securly

housing tabs

It looks to me like the bent L shaped bracket is to protect the housing tabs. Anybody have an idea on how hard it is to replace the hood locking mechanism part?

Yeh, I'm curious about this part as well. Although HID theft doesn't appear to be as bad in Boston as in NYC, I'd still get it just to be safe (if this kit is good).

Out of curiousity, how do other manufacturers (Mercedes, BMW, Acura, Audi, etc) protect their HIDs? I understand that the Max has a hood that can easily be opened without the release button inside the car, but if this kit solves the problem of opening the hood, doesn't that make our car's vulnerability as the other manufacturers?

WTH?

If there is a "shield" on the back side of the hood latch, it might be worthwhile, then at least the thief will have to cut/break the top mounting tabs. However, they'll probably just pry them out the front causing more damage instead.

Anyone else see the IRONY of buying a "Genuine Nissan Part" that should have come on the car from the FACTORY?

Why oh why are you moving to this God forsaken place? NYC is the biggest sh*t hole on the planet. I work here and I count the hours to get back to the safety and quite of my suburb.

I hope you don't plan to keep your Max in NYC...if so it's

I'm in Nassau too, just work in NYC. I hate coming here but this is where the money is!

Nassau the most expensive in NY? I would have thought Westchester (my old stomping grounds). You can tell by your sig that you are from LI. Your house looks like a LI house. And tell me we're not getting JACKED on the prices of them and the taxes

Oh well, it's nice to come home to know that your mods are delivered to your front door and sitting all day undisturbed....actually ummm...I don't live in LI (don't want you to stop by )

Worse comes to worse, NY's famous for their corner-walk hot dog stands, and I think they're pretty cheap, altho don't quote me on that.....just make sure you examine the water they use to cook them in, otherwise you might find yourseld doing this

Anyways, bolt those lights down well, and Welcome To NY!

I have a CF hood so that lock kit won't help if I get 2k2 hids.. The hood is fiberglass. It's easy to pry open.. What do you guys think? Worth getting 2k2 HID's since I'm in NYC?

truthfully, I just want to get up in the North East somewhere. I've lived everywhere else, just something I want to do. Southern Hospitality is a load of crap. Southern cities (like Dallas) are much more rude than NYC to me. And for what? Bizarre. I just relate to people better up there.

I have a hard enough time as it is with parking in a safe place here.. I cant imagine what I would do with the maxima there.

wow..look at all my local maxima friends!

My sig pic was taken at my parents house in massapequa, and yeah, typical LI! Taxes in NY SUCK! Nassau is the worst. People who DONT live in ny dont understand that 1st off, on LI, house is going to cost you 300K and you are going to spend between 6000-8000 in TAXES a year!! Im glad i rent right now! My g/f works in the city as well.

BTW tim, where are you lookin to go. Myself of someone else should be able to steer you in the right direction for a nice place to live. Just bring your wallet!

just spent a week in manhattan.. I feel like I held upside down shaken by the ankles. yet I feel the urge to go back for more :/

yeah, being able to spring for the yearly taxes is definately part of the equation. Really tho, while taxes are high there, they are generally high everywhere now. At least up there I would get something for it..

So are you lookin to live in manhattan? If so, may i ask why? Living on LI is cheaper, and the train will take you 45min to 1 hr depending where on LI you live. what kind of work u do? PM me if you want....

I have my doubts theres anything that'll keep NYC/NNJ thieves from stealing your HID's. These a$$holes would rather slice your whole front end just to take your HID and sell'em for $80. In any event, Tim if you choose to come to the NE, come to Westchester and be ready to shell $$$. You will know you aint in AZ no'mo'. I think LI is nice but I prefer W'chester. There is nothing the LIE during rush hours!

since this has gone OT

Having been born, grown up, went to school, and worked in the NY/NJ area (worked in CitiCorp center @54/Lex and 111 Wall for two years) I miss Manhattan life. There were plenty of downsides, traffic, bad weather, cost of living, etc. However as much as I love Northern CA, cost of living is worse, weather is better (although not lately), traffic varies (not as bad as Southern CA), etc. I still prefer Manhattan over San Fran or LA.

The one significantly good point about California driving over NY/NJ driving is that you can safely (no fear of a ticket) go 85-90 on the highways without a radar detector and without keeping a constant eye peeled for 5-0. I have to remind myself about this everytime I go back to visit the family. I'm not saying people don't drive fast in NY/NJ. Absolutely the contrary. It's just owner a radar detector is a must in those areas.

I would go for it Tim, even if only for a few years.

ah, yeah.. thread jacked 'cause there really isnt any more info. In the areas where you *really* need this kit, *nothing* will stop them.

I've already done NorCA. Its getting crowded like NY, but people can't adjust to it very well there. Not sure about Manhattan. My wife wants an apartment there.. whereas, I'd rather have a house many hours away from the city.

I'm a developer for publishing database systems. I can basically work from anywhere alittle bandwidth. The NE is chock full of publishing houses. And my wife is a tech writer. really, we belong there. One of the reasons we are paying off the Max instead of the G35C, is to keep bills down for the move. I dont really see this move happening until the job market improves there tho.

If you decide to do that on a weekend, mail me and let me know. I'll do my best to get down there; no sense in the coastal peeps having all the fun.
