i am flat out satisfied about having dunlop sport A2s. i'm coming home on RT 70 in the pouring rain and the control i have is superb. the steering wheel only feels slightly "mushy" compared to the out of control aquaplaning i got with my old BFGs. instead of the car skipping sideways whenever i hit a big puddle i knife through it planted firmly to the ground. i was able to drive at 70+mph on the road without even the slightest bit of hesitation. of course i used better judgement when approaching traffic. i am very familiar with the road since i use it back from work every morning. everyone seems to be having a hard time driving 40mph and even putting on brakes when they come to a puddle, but not me! man. i got home in no time. wet or dry, these tires rock.

 

Sport A2's, are one of the best tires I've driven on.

 

Given that I never drive in the snow... should I get Sport A2s or Toyo T1-S in 215/55-16??

My friend just put a set on his Prelude and he said they're the best tires he's ever had so far.

 

pretty decent. they have two large grooves that expell water, snow and have provide some "bite." also, they seem to have good self cleaning characteristics in the snow. for the price you can't beat it. wet or dry. they even give me awesome 60' times.

 

How's the road noise on them? My Falken Z12's are a bit noisy on the road with the radio off.
On the Trans Canaday Hwy doing 120km/hr in the pouring rain at night the Max's steering felt a bit light and I really had to keep my wits about me.

I just drove home about 90 miles in pouring rain.. there were stretches it got so bad that you could barely see the road.. even in severely flooded areas they were cutting through the water very well. The steering response is still excellent despite wet conditions. Monday I drove in cold weather and they were amazing in 20 degree temperature, I was pushing it hard


This is one of the best all season high performance tires out on the market right now. And definately the best for the price

 

They are SILENT!

When I first put them on it felt like a whole new car, I was getting scared lol.. the road noise was severely reduced from Toyos I had before.. In temperatures above 40 and dry pavement, I don't get any road noise what so ever.

Check out the ratings on tirerack.. they are well up there for tread life, noise comfort and dry and wet traction.. even snow traction...
I bought them when they just came out on tire rack and there were no ratings for them.. I just saw a well priced tire in my size and said, oh well.. **** it.. and they turned out to be amazing.

I'm definitely leaning towards these to replace my RE950s next year. The 950s still rock, but they are getting noisy in their old age. When new, I'd only get noise under threshold braking...

 

i have the sport A2's and i hate them ... they do have better grip than my old yokohamas but i still slide alot all the time
maybe i should slow down a lil

 

mixed feelings here. They're really good in my bro's 93 SE 5sp stock for dry (not outstanding, but really good). Generally, for most rain/wet situations, they've been good (better than average). But recently, I've noticed that in 1" standing water on concrete, they suck! I was squirming all over the place today and earlier this week. My gf in her 95 Altima SE 5sp stock was having much better traction than me. rrrrr

seem to out perform my Dunlop Sp 9000s in 245/40/18s

 

I don't understand how some of you are not satisfied with the performance of these tires. When I drive on these things they give me much more confidence on the road and I can safely push the car hard..

They are not Summer performance tires so don't expect them to perform like such.. They are all season and generally don't even come in a lower profile than 50 I believe.. obviously they can't be as nice as some 235/45/17 Kumho 712s on a dry, hot summer day.. but overall they are probably some of the best tires to fit on stock 15 or 16" wheels.

It's good to hear that about the A2's, because I think they are AA traction rated and pretty economical. I know a girl with a 528i who got them though she didn't have any comments on how they drove. More proof that you don't have to spend $200 on a tire for a Maxima. Good post!

 

Keep in mind that tire size is extremely important in the wet. Generally, the wider the tire (wider footprint) spreads the car's weight across a larger surface area, which in the wet decreases the tires ability to penetrate the water layer to touch ground. Does your gf's Altima have narrower tires that will "slice" through the water to make better contact with the ground? However, in the dry, a wider footprint increases traction. It's a trade-off that tire manufacturers try to even out by using various tread designs and rubber compounds.

I have not used the A2's, but from the other posts, I'll consider them when my Daytona HR4's are toast (only complaint with them is bad noise).

i haven't checked the latest tirerack listing, but i bought my tires for $261 shipped. find an inexpensive tire installer to mount them and you have got one good deal on your hands.

 

Started out at noon on my route from Ramsey NJ to Manahawken NJ via the good old Garden Start Parkway. It was hailing down pretty hard. By the time I got to the Bergen Toll Plaza there was a nice slushy mix on the road. The A2's tracked through it perfectly at speeds around 50 - 60 MPH. Soon after as I was heading more south the storm turned into a pretty intense rain. The roadway was soaked as this slurry mix feel, the A2's sliced through the water very nicely. You constantly feel like you have contact with the road. They give great feedback.

On my way home last night was a bit different. Started out as snow falling onto wet roads for most of the trip. When I got back up into the Bergen County area at 9:30 last night, things began to change. The wet road was now frozen and down to only 2 lanes. Yet the A2's seem to bite down and find excellent traction, still passing people traveling much slower then I. By the time I go up onto Route 17 up past Paramus the highway was completely snow covered. All of the secondary roads were packed as well. Caught a guy in a jeep pulling two kids on snowboards throught the streets last night.

I gave those tires a run for their money last night and I still think they are one of the best all season sport tires I've ever driven on.

I have 215/55/16 W-rated (good to 169 MPH) Bridgestone Potenza S-3's, and they provide excellent grip in the rain or dry conditions, mounted on 16" 17.5 pound lightweight Enkei RS5 rims. These tires will not hydroplane! My 2001 GXE came stock with a 5 speed, and absolutely no options, having 15" steel wheels with 205/65/15 stock tires. I can't complain as the sale price was $18,995 brand new, purchased at Shasta Nissan/Subaru. I can attest to the need for a front strut tower brace (Courtesy Nissan), and rear axle sway bar (Adecco) to improve handling on the windy mountain roads here in Shasta County, and I am proud that I installed them myself. I also run Red Line synthetic fluid in my tranny and Mobil 1. But the biggest improvement in cornering and handling was going to the Bridgstone S-3's, as they have transformed my Max into a hot performing machine, especially when I have to drive to Reno and back. I did a lot of research about performance tires, including Dunlop A2's, Michelin Pilot Sports, Toyo Proxies, and Yokohama AVID's. There are a number of websites that have a lot of reader submitted reviews of tires customers have purchased. The best site is run by Tirerack.com. I must have read 500-600 individual reviews of many different brands of tires at many different web sites, but the tires that had the best reviews were the Bridgestone S-3's. They are expensive (list is $190), but the 16" 55 series can be purchased as low as $134 from Tirerack. I purchased mine from America's Tire Company(Discounttire.com on the web) here in Redding for $159 each, since they Threw in the Enkei's for $95 each. Most of the guys running S-3s have Porches, Beemers, or Corvettes, and you know those guys are picky! My last car was a 1987 Toyota Cressida 5-speed (pushing 200,000 miles), and i ran Dunlop A2's on it, and I can tell you that they are nothing special.
