switching synthetic oils?

Any opinions about switching from 5w-30 Castrol synthetic to Mobil 1 synthetic at 30k? I know switching b/t non synth and synth can be problematic but what about synth to synth? i have to for convenience reasons.

I would have no concerns switching. Make sure to use a Nissan or STP filter. I have been using Bosch.

Point well taken on the stickies. but i think we'd all be hard pressed to ask a question or start a topic never discussed on the org and it's nice to use a forum to engage others 'live' and not just search everything from a database.

I guess. But then again, do you want the most researched/accurate information or just what someone has "heard" or what someone's "mechanic" told them. I figured you wanted some accurate information, not hearsay.

regards

Can someone else to me (this moron) why once you go synthetic why people believe you cant go back to synthetic? I went back and forth a couple times on my last car, never had a problem. I know that aint enough to say I never had a problem, but is this where something develops 5yrs later?

Some websites say no problem, some say cant, but most of those websites are manufacturers and I dont trust them because I believe they are swaying you to keep buying the synthetic to make them money.

Total BS. Modern Synthetics are 100% combatible with modern dino oils. Thus no issues with switching.

I switched from Castrol Syntec to AMSOIL 0W-30 about 15 months ago with no problems. It shouldn't be a problem to stitch to Mobil 1 Synthetic.

It is almost like saying once you fill up with Union 76 you can't use Shell.

STP is a brand of oil filters. I've seen them at AUTO ZONE stores.

I switched 5 cars to AMSOIL 0W-30 Synthetic Oil about 15 months ago. I change oil once a year and oil filters at 6 months. I put about 12k miles on my car per year. All of the oil tests came back showing minimal wear except 1 car that my daughter ran 2 quarts low, it showed wear (no kidding!). One problem I have noticed with synthetics is that some people don't check the oil as often as they should. Because an oil is designed to go for longer intervals doesn't mean a car wouldn't burn it or leak it! I am also using AMSOIL ATF in I30 and Maxima, also use it in Power Steering Unit. Have had no problems other than my daughter's neglect. Also use AMSOIL 0W-40 in lawn mower and edger. Again no problems.

AMSOIL 0W-30 is a 1 year/35000 mile oil so you should change it at least once a year or 35K miles. In any event you need to change the oil filter at least every 6 months. If you do not drive your vehicle very much (<10K mile/year) then you may opt to test the oil and see if it needs changed but remember this would not be in compliance with AMSOIL's "warranty". You can check out AMSOIL's website for more info.

I use AMSOIL 5W-30 (25K miles/1 year) in my Max and my '02 Honda Odyssey because I do not drive 35K miles/year. I have seen a highway mpg increase from 27.5 mpg to 30 mpg on the Max. I have seen a ~.2-.5 mpg increase on the Honda but I switched from dino 5W-20 to syn 5W-30. Do my engines run quieter?...Maybe. I do like the product.

If you are using a bypass filter, it's not unusual for passenger car's (gas motors) to be able to run 100K on one oil change. These long drain intervals are possible because of the efficiency of the bypass system and the fact that with the filter changes you are replenishing a portion of the oil.

Without bypass, drain intervals should be more "normal" and vary depending on your driving style, conditions and oil used. On a Maxima, I think the longest I've heard of someone go is 15K. I also just saw a report on a 4.0L Cherokee that went 24k miles (without bypass) and the report looked like the oil had been changed at 3k miles instead. In other words, it was perfect.
