If you still have your factory BOSE, and listen to rap.. what do you put your "Equalizer" settings on? Everytime someone gets in my car they **** with it and change the bass and stuff so I want to set it at a good spot and then take off the ***** lemme know.. thnx

 

i set it at highest treble and 70-75% bass... this setting is pretty good at any volume... any more bass and it will distort... well at least it does in mine... up to you though in the end...

 

Don't have an eq in my 97se with factory bose cd/cass/fm/am... What you are you working with? Just bass and treble controls here..

 

just a bass and treble, but the treble has too settings... if it is pushed all the way in, pull it once, adjust. then pull it again.. you have another option.. Not really an equalizer, hence the quotes.

 

On my 97SE's Bose, I put my bass and treble both just a little more than half-way. I listen to primarily hard rock/metal type music (Metallica, Godsmack, Megadeath, etc...). I sometimes have to adjust both depending on if I'm listening to the radio or CD, and even between CD's, maybe because of recording levels? Neither go below the half-way point though.
Both ***** have a dual purpose. If you are adjusting bass or treble, and pull the **** a little further to another click, then you can also adjust front/rear fade and left/right balance (I can't remember off the top of my head which **** is for which). I'd just play with it. But in mine, for fade and balance, centered in the "notch" is perfect balance.
I definitely wouldn't take out the *****. A song like In-a-gadda-davida by Iron Butterfly has too much treble naturally for my damaged ears, and I have to tone it down. Other songs I enjoy cranking the bass (mine doesn't distort even when maxed out. Maybe music style?).
As for friends messing with the adjustments. The first time they do you can politely ask them to keep their hands off your stuff. The second time, just break their damn fingers. Beats removing the *****.

I put the bass a hair or two past the middle for the extra punch and the treble is also slightly above the middle.

The Bose system does such a great reproduction of sound that I prefer the way the tracks were originally mastered. I also adjust my bass/treble settings contantly because I have CDs with Mp3s converted to Wavs and burned so the mastering is not always as it was in the studio. Not to mention different radio stations also have differently mastered transmission outputs with respect to each other.

The good thing about the Bose system though, it can take a crappily mastered track and make it sound great with a few twists of those *****.

 

when i had just the factory system b4 i added subs to it (still have all bose speakers and head unit) but i turned my bass a lil less than halfway b/c i didnt wanna hurt my speakers and treble all the way up and when you pull the ***** out i have both set in the middle .... i now have my bass all the way down and my sunroof moves bout a quarter of an inch due to my subs

 

i wish there was a sound system that recognized what type of music u were listening to, and adjusted bass/treble levels accordingly...

like if a rap song comes on, turn up the bass, then when u listen to rock, turn the bass to about halfway, etc...

 

Man, that would take some intense prefetching and programming. I know that programming exists that will "remember" the specific CD (or song playing) you inserted and adjust (Winamp for your computer). Whether they will incorporate that to car stereos is another thing.

 

You guys MUST BE KIDDING! We are talking about a bass **** and a treble ****. Get real. You'd think this Boss car stereo came with a 10 band graphic equalizer. It's a basic as it gets. Move on to a more interesting subject...please!

 

If you haven't noticed, the bass and treble **** make a hell of a difference when you turn them. Who really needs a 10 band equalizer? Probably half of us can hardly differentiate between 1000Hz in the middle of the hearing range.

Yeah, the Bose system has alot more in it than you'd think. Like, for example, it also has automatic loudness. I didn't notice it until I replaced my HU with aftermarket. I physically had to use the loudness on the new HU at low volumes which I never did with the Bose HU.

Why don't you just put in some cd's, figure out where you like the sound the best with a number of songs and then do you disconnecting. However if you do that I know you'll regret it later.

 

treble = 3/4 the way up
bass = between 1/4 and 1/2 the way up and my JLs do the rest

 

if you are still straight up factory you should leave the bass in the middle and turn the treble up 3/4

this way you'll sound like you have screaming highs to everyone else, except there will be no bass in the car

I always set it on 90% treble setting, 60-75% bass, and sometimes I'll turn the fade 1 or 2 notches below half and keep the balance at half always, sounds good to me, although sometimes with some CD's, it'll sound a little scratchy and I've already cleaned the lens, so I'm guessing it's those certain CD's that I need to clean, will try that out. Any other advice would be appreciated.

 

Usually I just change it for each CD I listen to. I'm not a big fan of the system though; it clips pretty early.
