Noise upon starting
Noise upon starting
I have a 1995 GLE. When it sits overnight or for several hours and I start it - the engine makes this terrible noise which sounds like either a belt noise or a bearing noise. It usualy goes away if I step on the gas.
Would anyone have an idea what this could be? Any info would be appreciated.

My car makes noises too.

I think what Sean means is you need to be more specific and describe the sound...
Is it this...
Does it sound like a fan or something hitting against something? I know its not a fan but that's the best I can describe the sound. If so it is your drive pulley and it apparently costs about $400 from Nissan. I've had the sound for like three years and I don't believe it has affected my performance but I'm not sure. I hope htis helps.

The drive pulley/drive belt/timing belt/timing chain doesnt make a noise like that. If that was bad hed be getting misfire codes also.
Also the chance of ever having to replace your chain is slim to none. Unless you are somehow a really really really bad driver but even that, i dont think, could break it.

The chain won't break, but the guides and tensioners do go bad. I just did mine on my 95 with 162k. What a job though - you better know whats going on in there.
