Not just once, but 6 times with salt trucks

I hate sand trucks.

First Christmass Eve coming home from my baby's house, up on 287 North in the Pompton area. It was snowing and getting near the freezing temp. Out come the salt trucks. I'm crusing along at 60 MPH and the friggin trucks are in the middle lanes doing 35 MPH spraying sand and salt all over the road. What do you do??? Stay far back for the next 10 miles and drive 35 MPH while the rest of the highway passes me by??? So I move over as far away as I could, and sure enough get sand blasted briefly as I passed them by.

Next it's christmass day at noon. I'm on the Parkway and it's freaking snowing like mad. I wind up passing 2 more salt trucks, each providing me with a nice quick sand blasting. By the time I hit the 2nd truck, I tucking my frond end close to the car in front of me, trying to save my lights and bumper cover from the worst of it.

Then again on my way home last night, on the stupid NJ Garden State Parking Lot (they really sholdn't call this a road, it never moves) I encounter not one, not two, but THREE freaking sand trucks, making my grand total for the holiday.. bling bling 6 sand blastings! I'm scared to wash it now for fear what I might find on my paint.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. One time there was a dump truck in the middle lane of the highway going 5-10 mph under the speed limit. So as I approach him, I get pelleted by small rock or whatever it was, maybe sand. So I slow down and hang back until traffic cleared enough for me to go around. There was a brand new Mercedes going around him.. I would hate to have that nice a car and get pelted by those things. Finally I get up the courage to pass him but still got hit a little.. it made me so mad.. hate it when they do that...

ouch ouch.. At least you didnt crack your windshield. I had a pebble come flying at me and leave a small star-crack on my front windshield. Its still there. I better fix it before the crack starts expanding.

Did you ever think they might just be doing there job?
I know it sucks. My car is white instead of green right now. Unfortunely thats one of the bad things about living in our climate.
I have that salt/cinder stuff my door seals. At least they were taking care of the road. On I-81 yesterday its looked like they didn't even touch the roads. We 10 inches of snow and it was all compacted on the road causing a nice wreck to happen a few minutes before me. Tractortrailer jack-knife, Durango smashed, and another car smashed. We had to drive on the shoulder. (Didn't matter anyway still tons of snow.) Does that liquid stuff that they pretreat the roads with actually work?? The Sodium/or Calcium stuff?

I feel for you, Tom. I took a cruise w/ a friend on the twisties, and apparently there was tons of gravel and tiny rocks all over the road and somehow they shot up all over my car as I passed through them. Take note this was a joy ride, so I was going pretty fast. Ends up now, the front part of the fenders (in front of the wheel wells) is PLASTERED with white dots, and my hood took some hits too.

If it makes you feel any better, the color of your car will hide minor rock chips (dot sized) very well. But I know how you've tried to keep your car immaculate and well, I just wish you the best of luck when you go out to look at your car again.

I'm not sure what they use, but rustproofing is only applied on the underside of the body.

That's why I have paint protection film on my 98 Maxima. Keeps the hood, fender tips, mirrors, and bumper looking nice and chip free. My buddy with his 97 black SE wishes he'd done it now!

PS - Anyone in Eastern PA, New Jersey, write me for a quote. We've been doing this stuff at work for over a year now. It's awesome.

I hate the way that film stuff looks; it is so obvious looking. When I get my car repainted, I'm getting a special PPG anti-graffiti clear coat put on. It's expensive, but worth it. Resists chipping hardcore.

OK. My max is pearl white and it's practically invisible. I think it depends on the installer and the product that's used. The 3-M is better, and it shouldn't be done unless the installer is trained. This is not a DIY kind of thing.
