My 2K2 GLE Top Speed = 129...WTF!!!
Last night on the new jersey turnpikeway I decided to finally see how fast I could go in the Max. The car quickly hit 120 from 80 and after that it started creeping up nicely. I look at my speedo and I'm at like 127-128 and I look back to the road...a few seconds pass and I look down and I can't get above 129...I pushed the accelerator harder but I got nothing. I was like WTF..are you serious. My old 91 max topped this. So how in the hell are you guys getting speeds of 142? Is there something wrong with my car?
Oh and before I start getting flamed for going to fast, I just want you to know that there were no cars in sight the entire time I was speeding so I did not put anyone in danger.

GLE = AUTO = Different gearing than the manual 6-speed.

129 MPH on the NJ Turnpike!!!!
WOW! There are so many cops on that road I'm surprised you didn't run into one! Thank God, I think they shoot you on site at that speed
No flames here, I think speeding is cool

BTW, I've driven on that road before a couple of times (I live in MA, but have been in jersey a few times), and EVERY single time it was infested with cops. I learned quick not to speed on that road.
correct sir so whoever has a 2k2-2k3 auto that has went faster without a RSM is full of $hit. Of course I wouldn't know about that but if you feel the need to go faster than get an apexi RSM. Matt

. Even if your modded it doesn't get rid of the speed govern on the autos to my knowledge anyway. Matt

We are better!
But your rev limiter should still kick in before 7,000rpm!

What happens in a Max when the speed limiter kicks in? Does it just stop accelerating or does the car slow down? I only have experience with the speed limiter in a Caddy SLS so I don't know what happens in a Max. The SLS limiter kicks in at 130 I believe, and kills the gas until the car down to 100 (again, I believe).
All I know is I was getting by butt kicked and all of the sudden the SLS looked like he hit the brakes and I went flying by. He later told me the speed limiter kicked in and that's what happens. What happens in a Max?

There is no way anyone has gotten above that without a Apexi.
Also when you hit the limiter, you DO slow down about 5 mph, then it speeds up again till it hits the limiter again.

There is no way you went over 130 in a auto MAx period. They all have a speed limiter at around 130 for the SE.

Maybe its different on the 2002+, but on 2000-2001 and even 4th gens, it slowed down and went back up and hit the limiter pretty hard and slowed down some and went back up. I haven't been in a car yet that hasn't actually hit the limiter and now slow down.

Why would they put a speed limiter only on the autos (mental prep for the "stick is superior" posts...
)?Re the 129 - headwind maybe? With a 16 mph headwind, you're at 140 (air drag is something like 99% of the drag at that speed).
UPDATE: Called Nissan, they said "the NHTSA mandates a speed limiter on all US cars". What? I'm going to call BS on that one (or are Vipers and Vette's "limited" to, what, 160? Called NHTSA, they didn't know anything about it, so... Called my dealership, they said limiter at 140. Anyone know the real deal? Think it was C&D that said the 2k2/2k3 is drag limited at 145, so...?

The NJTP is like THE best place to speed... i only see cops on it south of exit 11. I have NEVER (knocks on wood) seen a cop on the TP from exit 15E - 16W which is essentially a dead straightaway. thats where i try my max speeds....
125 or so in the max (somehting told me to slow down)
140ish in my prelude (car was dead solid at that speed)
120 on my Kat (i was scared ****)
and there was no speed limiters on 5th gen preludes.

BTW I got my 6 speed Maxima up to 142 last night though...ran out of straight road...
I have hit about 138mph in my auto 2K2 on the Turnpike between exit 9 and 8A, while pulling on a TL-S this past summer. Maybe the GLE/GXE is governed at 130mph. Dunno?!?
As for speeding on the NJ Turnpike, it has the best straightaways in all of NJ. But the troopers can be sneaky as they tend to pace you, as well as, clock you from the side. (Not to mention, most of the interceptors have NO roof barlights now.) However, there are certain spots between 11 and 8A where you can "kick-it" hard.
Caution: The biggest obstacles on the pike tend to be NYC Drivers cruising the left lane at well under 65mph. Virginia drivers tend to drive the fastest of the out-of-state. Trivia: About 50% of NJTP drivers are from out-of-state.
VQMAN, just head East. Once you hit the event horizon of the NJ blackhole, you'll easily windup on the NJTP.
Peace.

Actually, the GLE's tires are Bridgestone Turanza EL42s. These tires carry a H speed rating versus the SE's Potenza RE 92s which carry a V rating.
By Federal Law, the manufacturers are forced to govern the vehicles according to the speed rating of the tires.
