Remember when the 2K2 was rated at 260hp?
Remember when the 2K2 was rated at 260hp?
Before the 2k2 was launched (or when it was initially introduced) Nissan rated it at 260 hp. Why did they change the rating to 255?
I'm thinking the discussion internally went something like this:
Ad dept.: How much can we get away with, 265?
Eng dept: No, 265 is too much. 255 is safer, with engineering tolerences being what they are, we can convince people there's enough of a difference between the engine in the Max and in the Altima to get away with it.
Ad dept: How about we run with 260 for a while, then just before the cars hits the showrooms, we'll revise the number to 255. This way we get the press for the big 260 hp engine, yet look like upstanding corporate citizens when we admit that engine produces 255hp.
Eng dept.: Ok, you guys are the bosses.
Sorry, slow week at work.

I don't think it was actually ever rated at 260hp, rather it was a horsepower number that Nissan had as a goal for the 2k2 Maxima's
