Who goes to Nissan Dealer to get an Oil Change

Anyone here goes to Nissan Dealer and gets their oil change?
How much does it cost?

I either let my dad do it or Nissan...

My dad was going to do it for me but he bought a Fram filter and Reg. Castrol Oil...

I heard both aren't good to use..

I want to go to Nissan to have them use the OEM Filter and buy some GTX Castrol Oil for them to use...

I have 59k Miles.... OEM Filter/GTX Castrol good?

I also want them to check on some things on the car...

My CHCEK ENGINE LIGHT Has been going on and off lately a lot...
every half a month or so (on/off)

Thanx for your input!

I do when I can't borrow, beg, or steal a garage or friend's apartment parking lot. Gives a good excuse to poke around the dealer's lot.

I do since I dont feel like changing my own and I dont want to deal with carring the oil around to recycle. Also the dealer knows me so they give me deals and I just like wondering around the lot looking at the new arrivals

Nothing wrong with going to the dealer. They also use different oil--one uses CAstrol that I know, another Kendall. I personally prefer the OEM filter. It's a time thing. I like to do my own brakes and tire rotation but I usually take the car for oil changes. I have a buddy who will replace his own central air and furnace, yet he said it's not worth his time to change his own oil because it only costs $14.95 and DIY costs about $6 for the filter and $7.50 for the oil so the most you save is $5. Not sure why your check engine is on already, did you leave your gas cap off?

I guess once I get my garage set up with proper lighting and heat I'll probably never see the Nissan dealer again. But I wanted to have steady documentation of seeing the dealership while the car was under warranty, there were oil and tranny leaks to be constantly fixed for the first 47k.

Re: Who goes to Nissan Dealer to get an Oil Change

I change my own oil, even when I didnt own a garage, I do it on the side of the street, catch it and take it back to jiffy lube for free. I am too picky to let someone else to change the oil in my car. I like to get as much of the used oil out of the oil pan since I jack my car on the left side to tilt it sideways and drain all the oil out. All you need is a 14mm wrench and oil filter remover and your done. Instead of paying the dealer $25.00 for a oil change I buy the Supersyn or trisyn oil from Mobil one.

LET THE FLAMES BEGIN

While my car is under warranty I like to have documentation of when the oil is changed. I have a couple of options, the dealer, or other shops that perform oil changes.
The last time I was at the dealer they told me that my brakes that had 80% life left in them, were in serious need of being changed I am leary of taking my car to the dealer because they seem to be encouraged to diagnose/cause problems that can be fixed by them. Local oil change stations charge close to 30.00 after taxes for oil changes.

So you know where I have found that saves me money, lets me watch the tech do it, and gives me piece of mind that they are not going to try and diagnose/cause a problem that don't excist, Walmart. Ya Ya let the flames begin but for under 20.00, you get a 15 point inspection, your oil changed, and documentation that it has been performed. It works for me.

My thoughts were exactly the same bro'. My car was losing oil and it was out-of-warranty. The dealer had full records of oil changing it since 27k so they did the replacement and covered it. Sorry to say I'm still losing oil where I thought I wasn't, but I'm at 70k so fat chance for a warranty claim now. Who the f*** knows, maybe the sender is faulty once again. I don't care anymore, just top it off until the A4 comes. Wards 10 best my a$$

When my e'mail replied that I had a message about this thread i got the fire extingisher out ready for the 'you take your max to wal-mart.'

I feel you though, with my eclipse, everytime I filled up the gas, I filled up the oil too.

Have you had your motor apart? I think mine was a bad gasket in the eclipse. Are your valves OK, as in does it make the sound of sewing machine (ticking) when your running your motor. Good luck, the A4 is going to be nice.

When 'betsy' starts getting sick I'll nurse her along until the end too, and keep my eye on that next car, kind of like a girlfriend.

Nah, with the Max the ticking sound comes from the power brake check valve, very annoying. I'd guess the motor consumes a small amt of oil, which is why it doesn't belong on Wards imho, but they'd never have it long enough to know the deal. If a decent amt of oil is lost and nothing on the garage floor it's the sending unit. I've heard main/rear seal but I find that hard to believe, plus that's major and in which case Consumer Digest needs to remove Maxima from it's list and Reports needs to give Maxima some black circles!!

VALVOLINE SHOPS SUCK *****.

I go to the dealer, not worth my time to save $10 doing it myself anymore...

Dealer treats me well...Stateline Nissan, and I don't tip...

These people in here have been talking about tipping service reps...maybe not on this thread..but give me a break.

I'll never go to another Valvoline...not becuase I don't like their oil...but because the service was HORRIBLE, and they didn't want to rectify the situation.
they had a very undertrained staff, and the kids in there were rude...eating their lunch in my wifes (at the time) brand new Pathfinder...

the overfilled the tranny fluid...IT HAD 3000 MILES ON IT!
why were they filling the tranny fluid!???

Tranny fluid? Whaddya got, automagic or something? j/k

Where we come from we call it gear oil (stick world).

But seriously, never let those Jiffy Boob places talk you into anything to do with your tranny. Some of the newer cars have permanently sealed autos (à la BMW) yet those chimps will tell you it smells burnt and needs to be change. Their GED's will do both harm and foul!

That sucks, but in your sig, your fine with the Max, I get a chubby everytime I see the 2k2+ headlights (that's how I tell the 5th gens from the 3.0 - 3.5 VQ) when I think of the comfort and potential. And it's usually some old fart who I know doesn't appreciate it. Wouldn't the 330 and G35 (love that car in the coupe) have been some what more?

yeah, the G35 and 330ci were a lil more...but you get so much more!

kinda...really you get a smaller car, RWD-and the pros and cons that come with, you get better service (but i'm good with my nissan service) and you get a car that not so many people have with the G35 and 330ci

yo, check out my post, it's my wife's 2001 Pathfinder that I'm talking about...

See my SIG, My Maxima is a 6-speed. i wouldn't have it any other way...

And she was the one that took it to Valvoline...I work full time, and go to school full time, so I don't have the time to even take it to get the oil changed, let alone change it myself.

I wasn't at Valvoline, this is what I found out after playing "Hardy Boys" when I found Tranny Fluid all over my garage floor...

They were just "topping it off" the idiots tried to check it, couldn't figure out if it was full or not (duh, of course it doesn't need tranny fluid, it only has 3000 miles on it) and they overfilled it...

They didn't sell us anything "extra" part of the standard oil change was to "top off" fluids if they just needed a little...but the idiots gave me "alot"
