Viper 550 ,Price question
Viper 550 ,Price question
I am looking to have a alarm installed with remote start.
I got a price for a viper 550 includes remote start with proximity sensor includes
putting the brain of the system in a different location other then under the dash. [I would rather not say the new location] also mixing the wires in with the factory ones to help mislead a thief trying to get past the alarm
Price complete 500 cash no tax
Is this price good or not ? thanks for help
Location parkway stereo long island NY
for 2002 MAX

If you live near NJ, which should be a 1-hour drive from where you live, ask Don(Pearl96Max) to have it installed for you. He will install it for you for $300. Tell him you're a Max.org member and he'll probably give ya a discount.
BTW, this should be posted in the audio and electronics forum.
You're lucky to live near Don! I have mine installed for nearly $600 !!!

I think $500 for the system and installation is about the average going price. Will you get any type of warranty on workmanship from the place you're getting it intalled? If something goes wrong and messes up the car you don't want to be paying for them to troubleshoot it and fix it.
Circuit City sells and installs Viper alarms and I think their price is just around that one (maybe a bit cheaper) but they warranty their work and the alarm for the life of the car. I think if you get a new car they'll even remove it for free and you only pay to have it reinstalled on the new car.
I've had two alarms done by them (both Vipers - one a 550HF) and I've had great experiences both times (two different stores).
I'd gladly pay a little more for a quality job. For something that is connecting to the ignition system you don't want a half-a$$ job and then be stranded somewhere.
Circuit City also noticed that my wiring job for my amp was sub-par and offered to rerun the main power wire through the fire wall for me for a small charge. The job was perfect and professional looking and they ended up doing it for free anyway. They even hooked up my scanner LED to my alarm for no charge (even though I purchased that somewhere else).

He also told me that the proximity sensor will give me nothing but false alarms, and I feel I need this to keep a thief from breaking the door handle as I have seen the do on the maxima
I think the warranty is life time,I will made sure
Thank for help
When I went to circuit city in Hicksville the guy did not seen like he ever installed an alarm on a 2002 Max. So I got a little turned off by them.
I'm pretty sure at Circuit City they have a book or some type of database that contains info on installing alarms and stereos on all types of cars. Kinda like how Crutchfield has the info available for the install kits for stereos.
If you trust the other place and/or have recommendations to go there AND they offer a warranty you should be good to go.
Good luck!
