Need some help choosing LCD for my car, placement? prices? brands?

Hey guys, I want to install an lcd in my car and I know all of you guys will lead me away from the ebay brands (ie: PYLE) but I know when I was buying my amp and decided to get my Legacy you guys said no and well it's been a year now and I'm still pretty happy with it, knowing I only spent 130 bucks on it.

Anyway I want to buy an LCD but I want to have it installed in the front, unfortunately (fundage wise) the only neat installation method I see would be in dash flip out screen which would require me to get rid of my head unit, which I'm not too crazy about b/c then I need a new one where more funds come in.

Could you guys reccomend something nice that I'll be able to do on a small budget, as most of you know I'm a 17 year old with a low paying job If possable some prices or possable active group deals would be nice, thanks

Sheesh - 17 yr old w/ a 2000 Maxima? You'll get no pity from me! You have hardly any money and you want to dump it into an LCD screen? My folks would slap the crap outta me if I spent money so foolishly!

Man I sound old....... (HS class of '93) I thought I was the $hit when I had a 10 disc changer in my car back in the day.

I wanted an indash screen too, but didn't have the funds, nor did I want to give up my indash changer.

You might want to go the route that I went. I picked up a 5" screen on eBay and mounted it inside my glovebox. I then used a Dreamcast as the source under the passenger seat and used an FM modulator to put the audio through the car's stereo system.

I should still have pics here:

The legacy screen was decent, it wasn't the best I'd seen, but for $87 shipped, new, to my door it wasn't that bad either.

On a side note, what are you going to be using the screen for? I honestly thought I'd watch movies and play games and all, but rarely did. It was more of a novelty thing for me and my friends, and I actually ended up selling it later on and put that money towards my stereo system. I now wish I had earlier put it towards my navigation.

MetaOrbit: PS2 for games and dvd's. I'd like a setup that would make it easy for me and my passenger to be able to watch, but if all fails I'll probably do that since it's extra cheap and me like

02MaXiMa_GLE: German, lol, hey I thought a Maxima was German engineering

Actually they're Polish plates cause I'm reppn my nation lol and obviosuly since the only cars they make in Poland come with a sledgehammer I know a Maxima is not made in Poland lol.

Anyhoo the screens I see on ebay for 80+ are in deed active matrix. Did u do the visor install my yourself? Level of difficulty? Where did you do the wiring. Very interested in the visor solution.

Also considering a stand that comes with similar lcds as Metaorbit's but not sure how neat it would look, probably not neat at all.

Oh yeah... Aren't the POLSKI-line cars manufactured anymore?... (I think that's what they're called)

I wrote a nice reply-post yesterday, but the server was busy & lost my message! Here goes again:

CAREFUL ANDY: I also purchased a pair of $100 headrest screens that said ACTIVE MATRIX on the box - but they weren't!!! The picture was lousy & unviewable from any angle... The vendor new this & allowed me to exchange for the more expensive $175 screens that were true ACTIVE MATRIX & were excellent! (I've sold these already)

Installing the screens in my visors was hard as hell... Use a Dremmel or something to cut the visors "guts" into the correct shape. Even the low-profile screens (like mine) need 1/2 inch clearance in the back. Don't expect to mount screens that are not low-profile up there - no room...

Pop off the vanity mirror with a screwdriver & cut the area back there to make room for your screen. Then use the vanity mirror power wires & connect them to the screens for power. My screens always have power going to them, but they are off, until they sense a video signal (awesome feature!) My video cable runs through the visor & pops up in the back - very stealthy setup.

The best thing about this whole setup - it's stealth. I know tons of people that have had there screens stolen. TIPS: Never leave them on around your neighborhood, and always turn them off 5min before you park somewhere.

Oh yeah, my stuff is for sale: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....&highlight=dvd

i bought this 5.6" LCD Screen From Here. I bought it 2 months ago & installed in passenger visor...you'll have to remove vanity mirror to have this screen placed there. I also bought a FM Modulator(write-up on homepage) that I installed to the Stock OEM Radio. And hooked all this up to my PS2....this screen did its job & I LOVED IT. Unfortunately I have bigger plans by putting tv's in back headrests & Pull out Screen.. So if you want the screen or fm modulator hit me up on a PM & make me an offer if you want it.

p.s. only pics i have(digi cam sucks)
