ok...
last night, my friends and i tried to install stillen y-pipe on my car.
everything went well...except for the fact that it nearly took us like 6 hours before we were able to take out the stock cat...and then we found out that stillen forgot about one gasket!!!
my friend had to use the stock gasket(ported out of course to fit the larger opening on stillen pipe) but one of the bolts did not fit because the holes did not align properly....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
so, i ended up driving home without that last bolt and my car sounds like a honda lawn mower because of the exhaust leak!!(i guess it's not suppose to sound like that?)...
i know that y-pipe install is suppose to be a 'bolt-on' but geez......
oh, yeah...stillen also did not tell me that i would need a Oxyen sensor remover for this install either!!!!
oh, wellz....i needed to vent this out.
so, sorry...i know some of you had no trouble installing the y-pipe...but....hmmm....

-peace

All I can say it "Welcome to the world of turning wrenches yourself". Murphy's Law almost always applies when working cars.

Re: hey, Jeff92se.....

No. The oh ****ing goddammit factor! hehe.

Just think about how new your car is and then think about all the 9 year old rusted nuts and bolts on my car!

If you only think it takes 1 hour to do something on your car, plan for about 2-3. Trust me!

That's why I won't let anybody touch my Max besides Nissan and my mechanic, and "anybody" includes me!

your 'friendly' nissan dealer will not work on your y-pipe since it will take out your pre-cat.
most muffler shops will not perform the install either because if they get busted for that, they are fined $1000.
so, unless you know a speed shop that does not give a damn about the emission law and the fine, you're OK!!! hehe...

by the way, anyone else had these kinda problems?

You are correct, irvine78. Why don't you take it to your performance shop in La Habra?

I can answer that for him...because the lazy a$$es at Premier didn't want to open shop until next Monday. They were supposed to open on the 2nd of this month, but decided to hold off on opening. Oh well...Irvine78's exhaust leak will be fixed in a couple hours in my garage...hopefully...

<b> i must be the luckiest person in the world.

Y-pipe install took me all of 1.5hrs. Of course, i have air tools. The O2 sensor should be a hefty 19mm wrench if i'm not mistakened. Did you install the Y-pipe right (regarding the gasket)?? You never know, that's why i asked!

I must be lucky too then! Mine took less than an hour. We did a friend's in about 45 minutes (Second time around is always easier.....) Unfortunately, I dont have air tools, just basic auto mechanics tools. The air compressor is next on my list

I believe I used a 7/8" open end wrench on the O2 sensor and it came off fairly easily. The front O2 sensor can easily come of the stock pipe while the pipe is on the car. The rear one is easiest to get off after the stock Y-pipe has been dropped down.
