Head Unit Noise?

Hey all,

I FINNALY finished my install in my 2K3. It consists of 2 sets of componet speakers (front and rear) and some subs in the trunk. I noticed that I have some noise coming through the speakers (although you can only hear it through the front tweeters due to proximity) when I have the head unit on. The noise is masked when music is playing, but when there are quite parts you can hear it (although I have "dog-like" hearing as my buddy put it).

I made sure to run all the cables properly and used all RF stuff (expensive) so I don't think that it's cheap cables. I was looking at the:

How to Diagnose and Suppress Noise Diagram

And it looks like they sell a:

Power Line Noise filter (for the head unit)

Which I'm pretty sure is where the problem is by diagnosing in my head until I have time on Saturday to really do it.

Does anyone have any opionions / experiance with these? The noise happens to me with the car off as well so I'm hoping that this could solve it.

Thanks!

Try the noise filter first. They run about 20 bucks and it might solve your problem. If not, then some will say it is the altenator................

How many volts does your pre amps on your head unit push out? You may need a line driver.

My radio puts out 4.5volts on the pre amp outputs. On my JL Audio amps, there is a switch for high/low depending on the input voltage. I have it set to low which will allow you a more exact turn when you set the gain.

Leave it on high and keep the gains down...see if this helps.
