Should I install my cap? How?

After adding my 2nd amp for my components, I'm noticing that my dash lights as well as my interrior neon is flashing when the bass hits. I do have a 1.5 farad cap, but I didn't install it hoping that I would not have to as it seemed to do more harm than good on my old system.

Anyway, my system total is 800 watts (500 for the sub, 300 for the components). Should I just put the cap on the power line for the sub amp or on the main power line for both?

As it is now, my system is so loud that my head was throbbing an hour afterwards so I don't get how people say "Oh, I'm putting in a 2400 watt sub, blah, blah, blah". Are they for real?

Thanks!

Did it make an improvement in your system? I didn't have much luck on my old car (alternator died!). Searching revealed mixed reviews - I as well as others look at it like a bandaid...but maybe that's all I need?

A 2nd battery will do nothing for the light dimming, it actually may make it worse by presenting another load on the alternator. A 2nd batter is only good for playing the system with the engine off. A high output alternator is really the only way to stop it but I already have a cap so I'm thinking it might be worth installing it. It's easy to wire up, but what a pain to take out the amp rack again.
