I get a low pitched humming noise out of the rear on certain road surfaces and sometimes when the road is wet. I've had this since I've had my Max and have learned to live with it and consider it normal.
Hope this helps.

if it is actually groaning, does it occur when you left up on the brakes?

Are you on the same roads when your going 50 as when your going at higher speeds. I have Nitto's too, and they are notorious for being loud. Mine are no exception. I really think it is your tires, and road conditions. I had the same thoughts once and couldn't find anything so I took the car in. Everything that would make that noise checked out fine.

But sometimes when I'm driving on the highway I will get this wierd very faint humming sound (sounds like the motor in your stereo when you eject a CD) that lasts about 2 seconds. I figure anything that doesn't give me a code is OK though. Unless it's that d@mn rattle on the drivers side where the ven number is underneath the front windsheiled, I have no idea how I will get to that, but I guess that's what you get after a while of having a noisy intake.
