Re: Will a 2001 maxima engine fit in a 96 maxima

The main part of the engine is essentially the same but the intake manifold on top is vastly different and will not fit your engine bay without modification. Also, there are quite a few sensor/component changes and your existing wiring harness and ECU will not work.

You need to stick with a 95-99 Maxima engine. You have no real options for a hybrid/upgrade motor (ie VQ35DE, or a 3.5L block with 3.0L heads, etc) unless you or your shop have a talent for making the required changes AND you have the luxury of time and money to make the thing work.

Stick with a VQ30DE from a 95-99 Maxima.

it could essentially work if all that is required is purchased.

-Complete engine with wiring harness
- ECU
- Complete exhaust form 5th gen for o2 sensor positioning on ECU
and probably a few more things but that is the major stuff needed

The ECU might have to be reprogramed a little but i would see why.

95CustomMaxima>> If you read in the FAQ it says NO really big, but after reading farther it says that no one done this and couldnt be deemed as effective if trying to gain horsepower. but since this guy needs a new motor anyway, it could work.

Enough money and anything is possible
