where to paint? desperately need you help
My maxima's color is cream/beige (pearl), tri-coat system. I need to have the front bumper painted. I just took it back from a local body shop today and so disappointed because the the painter couldn't match up the color (not even close to 75%). Actually, this is the second time already, the last painter could not do it either.
Can you guys recommend me any professional place where they can match the color close enough? any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Well it's hard to suggest. Maybe someone in Pa. can help. Usually shops have a machine that can read shades and duplicate colors pretty well. I suggest going to a high end shop that has experience in 3 part paint systems like pearls. Maaco would NOT be one of them
Thank you, Jeff.
to beige color max owners out there, how did you have your car painted? and how did it turn out?
does anyone know how much the paint job will set me back? although the quality is my number one concern, being a poor college guy myself a little saving is much desired.
Thank you all.

Hmm from what iv seen...a good job will be from 1500 bucks +...a friend of mine paid 2k for one on his MR2 and it looked frickin sweet! More u pay, longer it will stay lookin good though. I know i would never put a paint job that expensive on my maxima tho...
id say u could get a decent job done for about 700-1k bucks though...estimating...

No problem
4 years ago, my car had a partial repaint (front bumper, left front fender and driver's door) done at Showcase Autobody right there on N.E. 124th St. in Kirkland. Mine is superblack like yours. Matched up perfectly to the rest of the car.
i live in pittsburgh pa. i have the metallic blue color max. a week after i bought my car it was badly vandilized(crushed hood and roof). i brought it to a local body shop(Prailey's auto body) and they fixed everything and exactly matched the factory paint job. it looked brand spankin new when they were done. from what ive been told from body shops is that if it is the factory paint they can just order the same paint from nissan and it will be exact. if your paint is badly faded they might have to do something else but if not just tell them the year and model of the car.

First of all, the color is called "Satin White Pearl". That may help you in matching it. When I had an accident in my '92 SE, Caliber Collision did a good job with the paint. I'm in southern California, I don't know if they have them in your area. You can check at calibercollision.com Good Luck..
paint
PPG makes a factory package paint that a bodyshop buys from there paint distributor.. try and find a body shop that paints with PPG....and uses DBU or DBC brand of PPG....
How i know i mangage a body shop in new jersey and recently painted a satin white pearl max the front nose and did a bmw mod

Thank you all for your comments.
Well, the two shops that I had the paint job done seemed very professional. They looked for the code under the hood and checked with a catalog full with factory colors. They mixed and weighted with accurate scales. For some reason they just could not do a decent job.
I got some estimates today from two shops and one Nissan dealer. The price ranges from $300 to $400. They all promised me what I always hear, that is they will match it very close to my factory color. Having had two similarly bad experiences, I'm just reluctant to try again.
Ray, how much do you think your shop would charge me if I had it done at your place? need to strip down the messed up color, put on the primer and so on.
Thanks

Just stay away from Earl Scheib and Maaco. YO're just askin for trouble by going to them. Any body shop will let you see their cars that have jest been painted. Feel them and make sure that the paint coat is smooth and doesn't feel rough or "sandy". A good paint job will cost you a lot of money though. I was pondering at changing (when I had it) my 90SE going from the Silver Frost Metallic to a Pearl Blue Metallic, also known as the OEM on the 2001 Mustang GT's. It would have cost me about $4000 to have the conversion done, which I wasn't interested, instead, I just got parts repainted which cost me about $1000 and got th entire car POLISHED and it feels a smooth as glass. I love(d) it. Too bad it's gone now.
repaint bumper
around 275.... a full paint job runs hear around 2200.....and we r a DRP for progressivie... colonial penn....alstate... also it really depends on how ur original paint is... when we paint a fender we also blend paint to the adjacent panel the cost is more but u due get the same match if ur paint is healthy....
well, from what I understand it's not too difficult to get the right mix of paint because the body shop people could look it up in Nissan catalog. The technique is what matters. The painter has to spray evenly to point where it would match closely the original color.
The guy who quoted me $400 did work on my brother's Diamante before (over 3 times) He did a great job. The problem with him is that the waiting time is over a month. He's just short on guys. Also, is it worth it to spend $100 more? his shop is just small and has ordinary tools like many other shops, nothing really "state of the art". And he does engine, too (not just body). The only thing impressed me is that he does all late model imports, even mods.
Another guy agreed to do the job for $300 dollar. I don't know if I could really trust him because he said I could have my car the next day if I drop my car in the morning today. That's a bit too quick. The guy above told me to leave my car for 3 days.
Should I really try Nissan dealer? did anyone here have a paint job done at Nissan dealer and how was it?
Thank you everyone

I'm in the burbs, but
Martin Auto Body (in Bala Cynwyd, same Expressway exit as Manayunk) did an excellent job on my wifes car, but it was a candy apple red... there's another shop right up the street from them that had a lower quote, but Martin had a better rep. (this is the same Martin as Martin Honda...) It was just under $900 for the damaged bumper and minor damage to the major body panel, and repaint. looked brand new.

your shop
What part of Jersey are you from? I am interested in getting a door from my pebble beige metallic Maxima painted. I recently dented the side of the door when I opened it in the snow storm and smashed a metal pole. There is a noticible dent, but I am not sure if one needs to have the entire door repainted?
Is that usually the case?
If you can provide me an address in Jersey, that would be greatly apprecaited.
thanks
Brian
