You guys wanna help me spend some $$$ on my 4th gen?

ok here is the deal I have around $2000 alocated to my '96 SE 5speed. There are two things that Have to be done. 1. I have to have a new clutch so there goes $325 for my ACT clutch. and 2. I have to have a new drivers side CV axle so there goes another $175 +/-. So with tose subtracted I still have about $1500 left. Now I have been debating on gettin g the UR 5lb flywheel and installing it along with the clutch, but I am not convienced that this would be the best use of my $$$. For the same money I can get the Zex kit that I have been thinking about which would definately be more benificial at the track than the flywheel. Also I am probably gonna go ahead and pop for the Budget Y pipe. The only reason I have been hesitant about buying this mod is cause I an going turbo this summer. The only mods I have so far are JWT and custom midpipe. What do you guys think? Also feel free to suggest anything you would do differently.

Thanks Davy.

Pssst. . .

get the lowdown on the Cattman header (prototyped & installed on a 4th Gen, already) before you commit to a y-pipe. No ship/availability dates yet - just a tease at this point.

I'll leave the other stuff to the guys who go fast in a straight line. I go fast on curves!

Good luck w/ your choices.

I also love threading my Max around corners and the shocks are stock so keep that in mind too. I am looking for the most "fun" out of my money.

that is a fine idea also, but alas I know how I am, and I feel like the odd man out at the tract with my near stock Max. Besides the cash for the turbo is not gonna be a problem, not to mention that i am also gonna buy and build up a new engine and install it along with the turbo. (not real keen on putting a turbo on a 150,000 mile engine). The car sure would look good a little lower now that i think about it.

Yep, lowering oughtta be right at the top of your list if it hasn't been done yet.

There's TONS of info already in the forums on this topic. Definitely do a search - you should be able to get some good insights there.

Match a lowering spring of your choice to a set of KYB AGX's and you can't go wrong. While you're on suspension, complete the chassis with a RSB & FSTB - modestly priced mods, but good bang for the buck.

If you want adjustable ride height, but a less comfy ride, consider coilovers. JIC's seem popular these days. Keep in mind though: while coilovers make your ride more track-worthy, they definitely make it less real-worldly.

yea I am 28 and over the whole function follows form thing. Sure I had a S-10 lowrider when I was a teenager, and from that I got my fill of bumpy riding vehicles. Besides I spend slot of miles in this car, so a decent ride is a must.

Go ahead and get the budget y pipe, its only $165 shipped, and you can also get a sets of spring(100-200),KYB AGX(360),fstb(20-35),rsb(125),and b pipe(170) for about (940-1055).As you said you are going to turbo charge this summer, you can always sell your used y pipe later,so why not have fun now?Just my opinion off cause.

Get the essentials

Get the whole exhaust and intake operation. Headers, Cold Air, Exhaust, Y Pipe, B Pipe, and get a fly wheel. You will be running low 14's. I just started saving for my Max. This would only cost around 6-700. Save the rest and get some more and wait for the dope *** turbo thats about to come out.

with $1500 your best bet would be, FSTB, RSB, CAI or hybrid, y-pipe and mevi, short throw shifter, and springs. and if u dont want the springs, custom exhaust

this is a thought I had on the ride home today. See if you guys think this would be a good, and usable setup. First as I said I have to do the ACT clutch and CV axle. Next what about this. Get the MEVI, and of course the cover that is a must. Next do the 70MM pathfinder TB conversion (I just hope MardiGrasMax is nice enough to share some of his knowledge on this subject with me)and 370CC injectors. (both of which are mods that will greatly improve my turbo performance) and then finish it all off with the Budget Y pipe. I bet this would be good for about 50 FWHP. If I am wrong about this being a good setup please let me know, just don't be harsh

50 fwhp i don't think so,the MEVI only extend your hp after 5k rpm to redline, where the USIM fall off after 5k rpm to redline. That is why you see about 40 hp different to redline, not peak hp though, maybe good for 10hp,someone correct me if i am wrong.

i would say... FSTB, RSB, KYB AGX shocks + H&R springs, budget y-pipe + greddy catback would make ur car pretty decent...

use the rest on gauges, PIAA, dash, red/clear tails etc...

Yes but between the MEVI, Y pipe and injectors, I don't think it is unreasonable to think that I could get a 50hp gain at some point in the power band. Even if it is between 5-6K. Actually i think this would greatly improve my 1/4 mile performance. It would move my shift point from 6K to redline and I most likely would not have to shift into 4th 200 ft from the line. Besides this is "always on" performance, and will not pit the cast pistons like nitrous will.
