well the break pedal on my 86 Max has always been a little soft, nothing I really worried about, still did the job fine. But i was driving today, and I was at a light and my foot went right to the floor. I have enough brake power to stop, but not if i had to panic stop. Needless to say, it won't be driven anytime soon.

I'm assuming it's the Break Master cylinder sence the fluid is full. any idea's I'm right, and how much will this cost me.

hopefully not too much, cuz my Z is suffering the same problems

 

Either got a leak somewhere, or you need new brakes. I would inspect the lines and check the brake pads to see if they are worned out.

If the pedal went all the way down, with little brake pressure, but the mc is full of fluid, i'd first look at bleeding the brakes...

if that doesn't work, check the PB Booster - it's is vacuum operated, and either a vac line to it may be leaking / broken, or the unit itself may have gone out.

usually, if there's a hydralic leak, the mc will show it with the fluid level dropping...

have another person press the brake pedal down with the car idling, and the hood up. Remove the mc cap, and watch the fluid level as they press the brakes...if it's not dropping much at all, if any, look at having your brakes bled first...

 

Same thing happened to me today too. The stopping power was real weak this morning and the pedal got soft. And when I was coming back home the pedal would just go to the floor easily and the car had very little stopping power. After I got home, I checked the fluid level and it was good, and I pumped on the pedal while it was in Park and the pedal got stiffer and had more resistance to it. This happenens at the worse time, it's freezing outside and I have places to go. Anyways please update us on the situation.
