Oil Pressure Sender part 2...
Oil Pressure Sender part 2...
As previously posted, I knocked the wire off my oil pressure sending unit, which was so conveniently located in such a manner that I'd hit it with my wrist when removing the oil filter. So since mid-July, my oil gauge has been inoperative.
I read in an electrical manual that sending units are available with dual outputs for a gauge and a warning light. does anybody know if these are available for our 88 Maximas? and if so, who makes them? it won't be too hard to install a new warning lamp with the others on the dashboard, especially in these cars, since I'm putting one in anyway for my aftermarket fog lights to let me know they're on. I have about 5 blank spots on the right side after the cruise control lamps. Most indicator lamps (if not all) receive the positive from the ignition and the ground from whatever it is that is being monitored -- alternator, temp, etc. so I know that it's entirely possible. doesn't seem that hard either.

Hi,Cool to be on this forum, this is my first post. I've had my '87 Maxima for 3 years and love her;these cars are bullet proof....That being said,I too have knocked the wire off my oil pressure sender and wish to remove it to reinstall the wire. Anyone know what size wrench I need? I don't think it will take a socket 'cause the nut portion seems smaller than the body of the switch....I took the battery out and can reach around to get at the switch but can't seem to get a wrench on the nutted portion of the switch...Help?.....
future reference, I find it a lot easier to get the oil filter from the top, if you reach from the passenger side you can reach it and it's a lot easier to pull the filter out and put the new one on.
Thanks,vernk,-Yeah,definitley the top for filter removal. I tried getting a wrench on the oil sender from the top,but no luck and I tweaked my wrist in the process, hence the battery removal to snake my arm around the right side of the engine. Still can't get a wrench on the sender, probably 11mm,the one wrench I don't have....anyone take the oil sender out of 1st or 2nd generation Maxima and know which size wrench is needed....?
The oil sending unit in my Maxima will definitley NOT take a socket, the switch has a built in hexagonal bolt portion below the much bigger main body of the switch, beyond which extends the threads....Just wanted to save the $40 I would spend on a new one.....
