Nissan official response to HID theft
Nissan official response to HID theft
i wrote the company a letter to bring to their attention of HID thefts and here is their reply:
Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.
We at Nissan are distressed to learn of the theft of your vehicle's Xenon HID headlights. It is most unfortunate whenever thieves or vandals damage someone else's property, particularly their vehicle. Nissan is proud of the engineering that has gone into producing your Maxima.
However, as you are undoubtedly also aware, Nissan vehicles are not unique in being equipped with new generation Xenon HID headlight technology. Nor are Nissan vehicles the only target of thieves and vandals. However, because Nissan takes its commitment to its customers and its product quality very seriously, we have
carefully investigated this situation. We have concluded that there are no defects in the materials or workmanship related to your vehicle's Xenon HID headlights and related components, and that this situation is therefore due to the criminal conduct of others.
Nonetheless, please be assured that your concern is very important to Nissan North America, Inc., and its dealerships. In addition, Nissan has developed an anti-theft kit which customers may purchase to help discourage theft of their Xenon HID headlights. This kit is part number 65601-6Y300.
Thank you very much for bringing your concern to our attention. If you have any further comments or questions, please feel free to e-mail us.
Sincerely,

I'm surprised they replied, but I agree
.Like the "anti-theft" kit prevents anything.

so since they're going to get stolen anyway, you should write "These HIDs were stolen - try to sell them now F--KER!"

I think Nissan North America should compensate all 2002-2003 owners in some way. First they make a car that doesn't claim the 255HP rating. Now they give us BS response back regarding about our HID theft problem. Whats next next Nissan???

What about the 255HP? I missed that one. But about the lights they should admit that there is a problem and they are working to find a solution for their next models and that their is a kit, FREE OF CHARGE, to current maxima owners to help ease the problem.
What about the 255HP? I missed that one.
on that statement. Check out "Let's sue nissan for our 15HP thread..." All your info/questions will be answered in that post. Sorry members if I got off-topic on that statement.
ok i see what nissan is sayin...but i think that if nissan is going to put HID's in a car they should come up with some kind of protection...like that kit that they are talking about...it shoud come standard...the plastic tabs should be welded...see if they dont want "us" messin around with the light and such(you know when you go to nissan and they complain that we are tampering with the car)then they wont mind weldin the lights down...if the weld is tampered with...then its our fault...
compensation!!!! i dont think so... y should they compensate us...its tru its an act of vandlism...
but there is no protection against the vandlism...thats what should be stated...
see to nissan we are nothing but stats... to us the maxima is an investment...somthing that gets us to point a to point b...this investment should be protected by all cost...cars are a must...the HID isnt a luxary; its a saftey mesure...
brighter the light better we can see deer or whatever....
if an air bag was faulty and kept poppin out while driven...dont you think they would do somthin about it?
well how come they wont do it here....
i second the motion about the email....
i dont wanna have to look out side every 10 mins tro see if my
F(_)CKING lights are still in my G()D D@MN car!!!!!!!!!
(by the way mine should be here soon!!!!! lol)

I had my car in this weekend to have work done. A guy in the office said that they were just hit and they lost 19 sets of lights. He said another dealer in Jersey lost 70 sets in 1 night!
The dealers must be upset as well, I'm sure that impares their ability to sell as well as the loss, even if it is covered by ins.

Also most people I know have a $500 deductable on their insurance, and I think the HID's for our car is $1000. Then when you put in a claim, your insurance will be increased (atlease in NJ it does), do you think that is a good decision financially?
By the way the next time you go to a resturant and your burger is not cooked the way you want, you see hair in your food, or your meal is cold.......DON'T COMPLAIN!!!
go cry with the CL/TL boys... so what if they get stolen.. just be happy they didnt' steal your car.. do you think nissan is going to invest another cent into the car to prevent headlights from being stolen? do you want them to do R&D into prevent the car itself from being stolen too? lives goes on.. suck it up and move on
you guys are even lucky they responded to you.. **** i would have thrown it in the BFD folder of my mailbox..
you guys want to one up the crooks.. engrave your VIN number in the lights and then search on ebay for when the lights for sale.. or locally

I personally think that the response from Nissan much more than expected but the community needs to give serious consideration to etching the VIN on the light an obvious place. I know some dealers do that with windows on vehicles (my truck was etched before I purchased it). Maybe the community should contact respective insurance agencies and see if they would give a break to those who take the steps to mark their lights. Has anyone contacted a dealer that uses the etching procedure and find the supplier? Maybe a group deal? I know it is additional cost to us but I say it is worth the additional money to protect my car. I personally don't have the new lights but would like the upgrade some day but cannnot justify the possible damage to the car.

Nissans aren't the only cars getting things stolen. Acuras and others get stuff taken. It's just the nature of people. Something new comes out, people want it. Some people buy it, others "aquire" it.

I mean, WTF did you ppl really expect them to do? Be happy you don't have a TL, where they rip your whole front bumper off to get the lights out, and the number of thefts for them are much higher.

Not sure if it would work on plastic housings though.
