What do they Test/Check when you do inspection?

i cant believe its been a year that i had my max , now inspection time

i wasnt around when i first had my inspection done when i got the car

i was wondering what type of things do they check /test

what should i look out for

i need to replace my rear O2 sensor, the cil keeps coming on with the code

will having a bad rear O2 sensor cause me to fail

is it harder to pass with a CAI ?

thanks for any responses

Most places will just use the machine to test you in NY. They will stick the probe in your tailpipe and drive the car on the inspection dyno. They are supposed to make sure all the lights work, the brake pads are okay, signals work. CAI will not affect emissions at all. You'd have to look really hard to find an a$$ that would fail you for a non CARB approved intake. I think you'll be fine.

For my inspection that didn't stick anything in the tail pipe, they used to with my 96, but with my 98 they hook something up to my ECU and run test that way???

Yep, in Maryland only cars older than '96 go to the threadmil. All cars after '96 are ODB-2 compliant and they take readout from the ECU. Takes about 20 seconds and there's no printout - just Pass or NOT pass.

I was wondering the same thing..I have a hybrid K&N Intake and will be having a budget y pipe in a week or so..I also have a bad rear heated O2 sensor. Will I be able to pass emissions like this or am I gonna need to replace the 02 sensor? BTW I live in Wisconsin.

Thanks,

-Nick

Where are you located? I have a 97 and they still put me on the dyno. I think they put all cars on the dyno in NYC.

I took my car to the VET last week, all they did was hook this little cord up to my car.

02 Sensor

Funny you should ask that question about the 02 sensor. I ran into the same incident myself last year and was told that I needed to change it or I might POSSIBLY fail the inspection. When I look back now in hine-sight (and $300 later) I probably didn't need to have it done and I am sure I still would have passed the inspection.

Ride height

..this is not applicable to you (I see you are rollin 4X4 height like myself ) but in NJ they checked my ride height....they also check BS like front license plate much to my annoyance (had to go back home to pick up my plate)..my 97 max didn't like the dyno as it had my ABS light up for a minute till I hit the road and tapped the pedal before it went out...
