I think my car is trying to electricute me....

Lately after shutting off my Max I've been getting what feels like a HIGH wattage blast of static electricity from my door as I shut it. I know their should be some sort of ground on this car, but is anyone else experiencing this? BTW: I am not talking about alittle shock, but more like an electric chair shock

Dood, it's colder than it's ever been since you were born. That means there is NO humidity... NONE! (well, less than 25% anyway). When it warms/moistens up, you'll stop getting shocked.

I get blasted by the door when i get out also. Humidity is the issue, on a warm day you should have no problems. im still affected by the shocks I've recieved.

Don't touch the metal!

I close the door by pushing on the glass window.

haha I hear that. Thanks for the info guys, hopefully soon it will all end, cause I don't know how many more shocks I can handle. Next time I'll do a search before posting haha.

Funny thing is that cars can have their circuits grounded, but when it comes to static electricity, the car itself is actually insulated from being grounded by the mere fact that the tires keep it from discharging into the earth. If you notice when humid it diminishes, but also notice that in rainy conditions it is both diminished in generation but also discharged through the water. Ever been shocked after driving through rain?

Pansies! Try grabing both ends of a 110volt circuit...now that's a shock to complain about.

I've never had a car shock me as often or as bad as this one...come to think of it, I dont think any of my previous vehicles shocked me.....even my mustang with 255/40/17's didn't.

Something isn't right...

To this day, I've always been paranoid about getting shocked. All due to the 93 Acura Legend I use to own 4 years ago. That damn thing would shock the H@LL out of me EVERY day of the year! I even called the dealer to try to get it "serviced", but they really couldn't do anything. I once saw a blue streak of static when I touched the door. People who parked beside me sometime heard the shock and asked if I was o.k.?

Anyways, It's very cold now and my Max is starting to shock me. And I've tried every method to avoid the shock. I just now "slap" the door shut and take it like a man. Although, I'm still paranoid.

Just wanted to share my experience.

As you're getting out of the Max make sure you're touching some metal part of the door (paint is OK) before your foot hits the ground. I do this and have eliminated 95% of the nasty shocks. Keep your hand on it until the door is shut and you won't have a problem.

Yeah people discussed this topic last winter. There something with the max and static electricity. I've gotten used to getting out of the car and touching the door with my shoulder before closing it. My mom doesn't even want to touch anything. When I take her somewhere I have to walk over and close her door. Haha

This happened to me all the time, during the summer. Now that it's colder and wetter out, I haven't had it happen in a long time...

I get some serious shocks, you can actually hear them.
And not just from my car, everywhere, I even used to show people the nice blue spark!
Try the closing using the window trick, otherwise let your passengers get out first.

Before you start moving your butt in the seat, put your hand on the door frame, and keep it there as you get out.

That way, all the electric potential bleeds out, and you won't get shocked.

Yesterday our dew point was -7 F. I've NEVER seen a dryer day!

Static Guard?

Haven't you guys ever heard of Static Guard? Just spray lightly on the seats and floor mats. No more static shocks! Doesn't smell that great, but just cover it up with Fabreeze or something.

This really works. I use this method all the time when I get out of my car....and no shocks!!

Now here's a 'backward' version. Last night I got IN my Max and when I touched the key to the ignition, I got a spark that lit up the whole front seat area!! Yeah, the air is REALLY dry!!!

My Max is good to me, but the passenger always gets a zap. Try grabbing your dog after she's been playing on the carpet for 10 minutes...

2K2SE is right but there is a easier way.Touch the the pillar(where the door latches to the car)put both feet on the ground before you let go and it won't shock you.You can even let go and touch a metal part of the door and you will not get shocked.

just out of curiosity do people with leather seats get this shock. I was under the impression that the cloth seats cause a lot of static friction which cause the shock.
