"SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light...hmmm

Hey guys,

I have a question about the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. I have noticed lately that it seems that the light is just BARELY, EVER SO LIGHTLY lit up at night. Now, I don't know if that's the case, or if it's just getting some of the light from the other gauges. Would a light barely come on?? It's VERY dim, but it's the only light down there that you can even see. If it is trying to light, what sort of thing could this be? (PS no mods installed yet)

its a bad diode or something on the cluster..just talk to your dealer about it, its a common problem. Its been discussed before!

Whew! Thanks man. I tried doing a search for SERVICE ENGINE SOON but nothing very specific came up. I may take my car up sometime before the ATL meet tomorrow afternoon.

Nissan really cheaped out on the 2k2's and 2k3's. The 2000/2001 model years do not have this problem. But yeah... you're faster.

I had this same problem and I just took it to the dealer and they said they have had a couple other people with the same problem. They ordered the parts and a couple days later I left my car with them for a half day and I picked it up after work and it was all set. They have to replace the whole gauge cluster.

Did they provide a loaner?

I totally agree with you. The only reason I said no was because I had already made plans with my girlfriend to pick me up; otherwise I would have taken the loaner. My dealer is pretty good as far as fixing mechanical problems but I can't get them to fix any of the annoyances with the car (hood flutter, wind noise). I think my next car might be an infiniti. Get this.....my uncle bought an infiniti in Mass and he lives in NH, so when he needs work done on his car they send a flatbed tow truck to his house and pick it up and then drive it to the dealer, then they drop it back off at his house when he is done. Now that is service!

I think I'm having the same problem too. The SES's light comes up very faintly, but noticable. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it only started happening when the weather here dropped into the teens.

Yeah that's what mine did when it went bad. Take it to the dealer. You shouldn't have any trouble getting it fixed. It seems as though most of the dealers are aware of this problem.
