VE Auto got a little faster today --->

I went to the drag strip again today.

My best time of day was:

RT .512
60' 2.2979
330' 6.2729
1/8 9.5566 @ 74.92mph
1000' 12.4028
1/4 14.8395 @ 92.28 mph

My worst time was 14.97. And then 7 runs inbetween those numbers. I hot lapped most of the day, but I set my record when I let my car cool for 20-25 minutes.

There was a 10mph headwind that I think hurt my trap speeds slightly. My previous best time was 14.93 @ 92.61mph with 2.34 60'.

My new mods since my last track visit are Arospeed straight thru muffler (thanks James), HD midpipe (thanks me and Home Depot), and a slightly ported throttle body with matched intake (thanks Bryan H).

Oh well, this is the record now. I won't be at sea level anymore (moving to Vegas), so you guys won't see any more times like this. I wish I could have ran in better conditions, but I dealt with what I had. It was 45 degrees, overcast, headwind of 10mph.

hahaha. Glad to see you finally got to race. I know he was talking smack last thread. I love my VG brotha's! But I am glad you laid the smack down and seems you are almost dead even with him squeezing.

Much love Jon, but I should dig up that old thread

What size shot of NOS was it?

Horrible launch or something?
YES!! Horrible launch. That VG power has some serious low end *****. He did a 2.54 60' on his very 1st run at the track. He did manage to hook up off the line a couple times and get a 2.26 60'.

Be nice to him dude. He's allowed to talk smack. But the day he says he can beat my NA with his NA... that is the day we can flame him. I wish I talked more smack.

I think he used his 65 shot and then 75 shot for a couple times. He was just messing around. I'm not sure if he used his 125 shot. It wouldn't have made any difference though since his tires SMOKED when he hit the switch at the top part of 1st gear with the 75 shot.

You should slap some NOS on to make it even. Apples to Apples.

Aaron with nitrous.. that's just scary. As it is, Aaron is constantly coming up with new crazy ideas at the track so I'd be afraid if he got his hands on a bottle

Yeah.. I don't trust myself with n20. It's so easy to put in a different jet and get more power. If I get n20, it will be a 55 shot and that's it!!.

It wasn't that hard. It just requires lots of patience and enough knowledge to know which bits to use. Since today's track conditions were so different than my previous visit, I can't really give an accurate answer to how much the ported TB helped. I know it helps somewhat. Bryan H dyno'd it at a 6hp and 13 tq gain at the wheels. It helped him by 2 tenths. I seriously think it helped me by atleast a tenth.

But as for the butt dyno, very hard to tell a difference. Just slight increase in throttle response.

u know that won't be even. i usually didnt compare the vg to the ve, I just underestimated them. Definitely not evenly matched cars. After seeing matt93se's car run over the weekend, I will never underestimate what 30 extra horses and lb/tq can do. That car flies. I still have a sort of attraction to the vg given it's lack of vtc's and non-heat soak problem. But again, 30 extra......mmmm.

Well, if you use a nice dremel tool like I did... the bits will break. You will go through about $20 worth of those cheap bits. They will break on you. Try your best to get a die grinder. Those bits are MUCH more heavy duty than those little dremel stone bits.

You will need the little cone shaped grinding stone bits. MAYBE a carbide bit. And many of those sandpaper bits to really smooth it out. Just put on safety glasses, turn on the radio and start grinding at the beginning and work your way to the plate in the middle. As long as you don't break through the wall of the TB, you will be fine. The TB is pretty tough. But it's made of aluminum, so some of those bits will shave off a good amount of metal without much pressure. If you need any more directions, I will be glad to help you. Just find me online one day on AIM.

Summit sells a couple different specific port/polish kits...

SAI-260001 (Standard Abrasives brand - $40)

SUM-G1060 (Summit brand - $30)

I'm gonna go that route when I get around to this.

That's perfect!! Just get the Summit brand. It'll be MUCH better than going through a billion dremel bits.

My brother in Vegas has a really nice port and polish kit that he uses on building his 454's for his full out drag Chevelle. It'll be really easy for me to do more porting when I get to Vegas. Muwahahaha!! Upper and lower intake plenum and more touch up my rough job on the TB. I could have grinded much more on my TB and it can always be smoother.

You guys might see big things from me while I'm in Vegas. Port and polishing, valve jobs, and anything I can think of. You just won't see me go Turbo. Nothing that big. N20 might be in my future. Watch out, low low 14's are possible, but only with the help of nitrous.

Yeah you did. People just kept asking me... did you race Jon? Did you race Jon? I'm like YES and he whooped me everytime. I tried to cut the best lights I could so I could get a jump on you out of the hole. But you were cutting high 500's, so I couldn't get much more than a half tenth jump on you. But, a few times you slept at the light and cut a 8 or 900 bulb, so I got a 3 or 4 tenth jump on you. Hehe, it's hard to make up 2 car lengths from the get go, isn't it? But, you made it up everytime.

I know you were NEVER worried at any moment except for that one time I had you by like a car length right before the traps, then you pulled on me CRAZY and won by a bumper width. MOV of 7 thousandths of a second. I couldn't get a break from you even on your worst runs.

you will notice more power with a 5spd car due to a more direct drive line.

i used carbid bits on my old max. if you use carbid besure to have a cup of wd-40 or water. do small sections maybe a 1/4 inch long, dip the bit into the water/wd-40. then do it again.
saves bits, and money.

glad i was able to help out.
