Ignition Kill problem?!?

i think i might have a problem with my ignition. every once in a great while my car wont start. its like you turn the car to on and nothing. no click just the regular acc power. i would assume it has something to do with the alarm and the ignition kill not turning off. im not at all sure on that though. it has been happening a lot recently. i recently found out the only way to start the car is to SHIFT_ it from park and change throught the gears and then it fires right up. if anyone could help me with a qick fix it would be much appreciated.

THANKS!

Check a part called the neutral off switch, it's on your tranny. I ran into something like this last summer. At least you can kinda start it, mine was completely fried.

Sorry, I can't find the invoice. But if I remember correctly it cost less than $100. $70ish... I think... don't quote me on that though. I'll let you know if I run across that receipt.

I had a similar problem and thought it had to do with the alarm. But it actually had to do with the shift selector not truely being in park. Try starting the car in neutral next time it happens to you. And if that works then you have broken/missing shift selector bushings, one is located where the cable meets the tranny and the other is under the car above the catalytic convertor. It took me forever to find out about the bushing above the catalytic convertor. Both bushing cost less than $5 total from the dealer.

Re: Re: Ignition Kill problem?!?

The same thing has happened to me in the past. Goes like this, the car starts fine, and say perhaps I "accidently" stall out *cough cough* then i try to restart the car and the nothing. Like you said, no clicks or anything of the sort, just the acc on. Bad times. I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but since I rarely stall out, its never really a problem. I was told by a fell '91 5-spd owner that the little blue box near the master cylinder has something to do with this.

thanks for your help. i think it might be the bushings because i have to kind of wiggle the shifter to get it to go into drive. i read that that is due to the bushings. ill have those replaced. thanks!
