Dynamat

Sup all,

Who here has played with dynomat? Basically here is the deal, I have temporary 10" ported sub my brother let me have, with a Coustic amp that puts out about 240watt RMS. It gives my car pretty good sound. Bad side, my trunk rattles like a **** when I get the nice deep low notes. Now I know dynamat will fix it. Problem is, I don't like the look of dynamat, I rather keep the carpeted look in my trunk. Now is it possible to strip down the trunk, install the dynamat, and put the carpet over the dynamat? I know it makes a world of difference, but I don't want the cheap foil look either.

I dont like the foil either. I wish I knew how to install the stuff I want some too. But I know for a fact that you can put the carpet over it.

Dude, check this out. I filled the trunk lid with foam to prevent the trunk from rattling, and I still had it. So I got down on all fours and listened closely, ignoring the tail lights, cause they rattle too, but not loud. It turns out the head shield just above the exhaust system is the culprit! The trunk bottom vibrated on my car so bad, that it actually touched the heat shield, causing it to vibrate. So, I found a piece of shipping foam and stuck it in between the heat sheild and the bottom of the trunk. It knocked out 85% of the rattle!

Hmm, I will check it out, I know my exhaust system is in really good shape, but I will check it out. It definately sound like my tailights making the noise. What kinda of foam you use, and where can I get it?

When I installed my sub my trunk rattled pretty bad and since dynamat is so expensive I went to a hardware store and got some peel and seal, its pretty much the same stuff as dynamat and it was a lot cheaper. I dont like the cheap foil look either so i took all the carpet out of my trunk and covered it with the peel and seal and put the carpet back in and it covered everything that I put the peel and seal on. Theres a few spots on the trunk lid where the carpet didnt cover all of the foil look but you can hardly tell that i put anything on it. I also found a bag of cotton, like a big cotton ball, and stuffed the lid with that. It really helped to get rid of most of the rattle, except for the tail lights, which still rattle. When you put the peel and seal on it helps if you heat it up (i used a hair dryer to do it) to get it to stick to the trunk without peeling off.

I used the foam that came with my DSL modem! You don't have to use much. You can go to Home Depot or Lowes for it. But you can fing some of that foam from stuff you buy. It is not the Exhaust system, it is the heat sheild that is between the exhaust system and the cars bottom of the chassis.
