Hey guys, I hope someone can solve my riddle. I tried rewiring my VTC
today, but I had no success. I followed the directions exactly from
Craig's website. I checked the connections and there was current flowing through the VTC. When I grounded it and started the car, the car would turn over at all. There was no sound at all, just the dash lights coming on. I need help with this. Thanks

 

Maybe you blew a fuse, check the fuse panel. In your post I think you meant that the car didnt crank at all? right!.

 

Try hitting your starter, it is a good chance it could of went out when you shut off your car, they do just go out. Mine did the same thing and it just so happened it went out after I took apart my dash, so I thought it was related to that, but it just failed at that time.

 

The VE engine comes with a very good starter, it is a permanent magnet style starter, there are no brushes. Now if you have the VG engine then it would be okay to tap it a couple times to free up any sticking brushes.

You definitly dont wanna f-up the starter on your VE, it is very expensive.

 

If you have VTC's, you have a VE, so try tapping it.

 

Well when mine would not start, I would hit the starter with my bar I carry in the trunk and it would fire up, sometimes I would have to hit it more than others, but I did that for about a week, until I could afford a new starter. I have had the car soo long that I have went through 2 starters and have done the same both times.

 

You know, I had a similar problem. I took my VTC rewire off when I changed my knock sensor. When I wired it back up, I went to start the car, and it wouldn't even turn over, it was acting if it had a short of something. When I turned the key, it would kill all power and reset the clock to 12:00 as well. It did this for about 30 minutes, but I asjudted the wires again, and it quit.

 

Your post indicates that you are an idiot (sorry but I had too ). Since when does haveing or not haveing VTC's got to do with the starter malfunctioning.

 

Have you ever replaced the starter solenoid? b/c the starter itself is very high quality compared to most and it should not fail, which makes me think you have something else causeing the trouble. You definitly do not wanna hit your starter anymore, if anything that shock that you are giving it is making the solenoid function, but at the same time its damaging the starter.

 

Your post indicates you can't read, as the original poster stated (quite clearly) that his starter began malfunctioning after he rewired the VTC's (ohh, there's that acronym again!). If the person has already quite clearly stated they have VTC's, you can safely assume they have the VE engine, and there's no need for the "if you have a VE" or "If you have a VG" stuff. Pretty simple to deduce.

eric, i have never replaced the solenoid. The starters last about 2-2.5 years, i start my car around 10-20 times per day.

 

He talked about the starter in both of his posts, the first talking about the starter in the VE vs the one in the VE (the one I commented on) and also the one telling me I was an idiot because I said he had a VE (asking what him having VTCs had to do with the starter not working).

If I came off sounding irate in my reply to eric, it wasn't my intent, my intent was simply to tell him what he had pointed out was exactly what the first person was asking about.

 

If your starters are only lasting 2-2.5 years you're either buying poorly reman'd PepBoy/AutoZone/AutoJunk starters or you have some other problem that is causing the starter to fail. Simply starting your car often won't cause it to fail in that short of a period.

 

Thanks dmontzmax, Try replacing the starter solenoid and clean all the power contacts with a wire brush. I can understand the great strain on your starter, but if the starter solenoid is not functioning properly then it will put a strain on the starter.

I'm sorry guys. I left out an important part. I couldn't get back on b/c my computer blew up. After i rewired the VTC the car wouldn't start, but when I take off the connection (ground) it would start like there was no problem in the first place. That's the big riddle.

 

did you hook up the rewire to the black and yellow wire on the VTC solenoid? You may have a short or a bad wire. I did the ground a few weeks ago and it works fine. The only thing that I noticed was an odd idle and a slightly different noise in the engine. But the ticking stopped!!!
